Just wondering where all the fans have gone from last week and the week before?

If I remember correctly there were a number of people criticising pulis' tactics, saying he doesn't know what he's doing bla bla bla.

Anyone care to carry on or can we all just agree he has got it spot on once again.

Genius.

I'm still here.
Changed tactics today, he actually set the team up to win. So if he gets it right, he gets praise, if he gets it wrong he doesn't. Seems fair to me.

You'll disagree but your completely wrong. He's gone with the same tactics he always has which is to make defending and being solid the priority and hitting them on the counter attack.

When holloway or anyone else for the matter could of got this palace team to get 3 points against the league leaders then let me know.

He is a tactical Genious end of and he proved that today.

Really. Both full backs got forward today as did both wingers. Jedi gave the ball away far less today, because he actually had some forward passes he could make and the players are also getting more familiar with the set up which frees the mind to do what comes naturally, rather than always thinking about positions. We counter attacked with a real speed and purpose and actually tried to pass it around at times rather than just hoof it. TP also did a Ollie and kept telling them to push up and encouraged them to run with it and take the game to them. In the previous five games he did not do this, so clearly somethings were different.

1) Chelsea wingers were obviously told to stand off full backs or were too lazy to track so they had time on the ball. They got forward when they could, as they have done every week.

2) Jedi gave the ball away a lot in the first half, as much if not more than normal.

3) 95% of our counter attacking was a result of Chelsea throwing people forward and playing a high line once 1-0 down.

The tactics were identical today, the difference is they worked.

That's why it's called a counter attack, if they're all back we really can't counter. The difference yesterday was we did it with pace, numbers and a purpose.
The fullbacks have hardly got over halfway in recent matches and Jedi was far less wasteful and nothing is gonna change my mind on that. The team played with a freedom that has been lacking for weeks. The amount of possession was the same but the way we used it was far better.

Your inference is that TP instructs Jedi to make sh!t passes?

Not at all, Jedi has never been the best passer, but was going through a bad spell which made his distribution even worse. Jedi seemed far more relaxed and positive yesterday, because in my opinion he was far more comfortable with what he was asked to do and with more options in and around him it made his game more instinctive and less robotic. Always having to follow strict instructions gets very tiring mentally and every mistake grinds you down.
Then again maybe he's just come out of his current slump and Pulis is entitled to no praise at all for the upturn.

That's probably nearer the mark.

That's unlikely to come from you as you've been in a sulk since he was appointed.

When we play like yesterday Pulis gets all the credit he wants, when we play like the last five games he gets the criticism. If that is sulking then I'm a sulker and proud of it. I want to watch an entertaining game and yesterday that is what I got, if it's s***e I say so. Some appear to have a problem with that, bothered
Also appeared yesterday that poor old Tone hasn't got as weak a squad as people keep telling me he has. Same team, just tweaked the tactics and things looked better, but if you want to keep slagging our players that's your prerogative I suppose

Agree totally

Which was what was missing first half at Swansea, most of Man Utd, Most of Southampton, all of Sunderland but not against Newcastle.

We didn't all just camp out on the edge of or box against Newcastle or Chelsea but looked to get bodies forward and quickly - rather than start stroppy threads the OP should actually perhaps say those 'negative' posters who asked for a little more adventure with the obvious need to defend have actually been vindicated in their 'negativity'...I doubt it

I thought his tactics were very similar to most games, the only difference was that they worked yesterday. Chelsea certainly played into our hands though, perhaps they assumed that we would do a West Ham and park the bus and didn't have a plan B when we didn't. They should have known as we played quite well when we lost to them at the Bridge.

Chelsea needed to win, to put pressure on Man City, so they came at us, even before we were 1-0 up. We absorbed their midfield pressure and found a decent amount of wide space, because they had a tight central midfield creating a lot of space in the wings and channels to move into when attacking.

Marriapa, Ward, Bolaise and Puncheon linked up really well with counters, and we could spin balls out into them because they had space created by the high attacking line of Chelsea.

No he didn't. He set out to make us solid and try and grab a goal as he does every week. How do you think he changed the side to go for a win?

Edited by IMpalace (29 Mar 2014 7.28pm)

yes he did...KG was far more offensive in both positioning as well as overall play. Just this ONE thing allowed us to 'play in between the lines' and bring others such as Yannick into play higher up the pitch in more dangerous areas.

loved every minute yesterday, even before we scored,

well done the players and well done Tony Pulis!!

yesterday was the perfect choice for defending deep and counter-attacking and this time we remembered to do the second part of that as well

especially as that what they try to do to others

there's too much black and white thinking from some of the In Pulis we Trust brigade here, you need some flexibility in tactics and mentality depending on the games, we had missed opportunities by not having more of a go in the previous five games, great to have a Plan A that's clear and everyone understands but the very least you need is a Plan A with some variations - being slightly more attacking and making use of some of the quality we do have now in this squad is not the same as being gung-ho or naive or wanting to be like Barcelona

anyway these three unexpected points has made up a lot for what we could have had from the last five games

brilliant day yesterday!

I feel 100% the same as you Mr Maudling in regards to saying we should have played like this 5 games ago and more if you ask me.

We counter with pace and urgency and the key for me is that we just have the right type of players to do this ie Puncheon and Boalsie now backed up with Ledley and Ward.

Just hope the penny has now finally dropped and the belief is there to carry this performance into the remaining games.
