How many of our new so called 'plastics' where at Sheffield Wednesday on that famous day in May 2010.
I do love being in the premier league but being in that near 5000 strong crowd going mental at the end is what being a palace fan is all about.

I agree with Bubble Wrap i won't be that gutted if we do go down as the Championship is exciting and we will get the hardcore fans only at away games.

Did you only go because it was a big match? Or would you have gone even if we were mid table and the game meant nothing? I need to know to judge whether you are a plastic or not.

What a day that was, the ground was literally rocking at points. It was a truly awesome atmosphere. I will never forget scannels lay off for Ambrose, the subsequent goal and the most nerve wracking ten minutes of my life waiting for the final whistle. When people ask what was the biggest game in Palace history it has to be that one, all day long. I have some serious man love for Hart and all the players on the pitch that day. We have come so far.

I wasn't there (its called having a job)nor am I a season ticket holder (its called having a job!) but I went to Halifax twice (lost 3-1 once), Bury, Shrewsbury, Chesterfield..shall I go on? Yes in your eyes probably a plastic but I know that I have been going to watch my team since 1961 through hell and highwater, if that is a plastic well I am glad to be one!!

I wasn't there, but I went to an away game in Southend on a Friday night in the old 3rd division in the 70's.

Am I plastic?

I was there too, apparently I am a plastic now.

In fairness to the OP I think many of you have taken him a little too personally. He was referring to the plastics that are spoken about willy nilly on other threads. I don't think he was saying that anyone who didn't go is plastic. If you lot can't relax on a weekend when we're not playing then what chance do you stand. Chill.

Honestly, I don't think palace is big enough for plastic fans. Maybe the draw of the premiership has just made the less vocal or less fanatical fans be a bit more .... Well, fan like. I don't think because we reached the prem people are suddenly supporting us. They were probably fans beforehand but the extra excitement is a bit of a pull. Me for instance I've been a fan of palace for 15 years. Before that I didn't have a team I just liked the sport. I'm from Southampton but lived in Croydon for a year. I have no real connection to palace. My family are all saints fans. I can't make games that often due to work and family commitments but I do follow every game. I watched us at Wednesday on tv and really remember a super speroni save! Am I plastic? I admit there are fans out there that shout louder, go to more games, buy more merch and know more facts than me but that doesn't stop me supporting palace and I think I'm a real fan. This plastic tag gets thrown around too easily for me.

Were you at the home game v Middlesbrough in the early 80's when it snowed like buggery?
We won 1-0, had a player sent off and there were about 8000 in the ground.
I was but it don't make me a better fan than anyone else on here or anywhere for that matter.
These "I'm a hardcore better than you" threads are boring now.

I wasn't at Hillsborough but I was at Stockport as well as the Valley. Two opposite sides of the being a Palace fan. While there is absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with being proud to be able to say 'I was there' at key moments in our history, failing to acknowledge (or embrace) new followers of our great club is adopting a small club mentality. Of being afraid of change and have a preference for remaining a struggling Championship club instead of a forward thinking top division one that wants to grow. I for one have followed Palace for many years but would like to actually stay up and see how big we can become.
Nothing wrong with nostalgia but history is in the past. Lets look forward.

There is nothing more cringeworthy than these people who think they're better fans than others.

I was not there, but so what!! still felt physically sick for the whole morning and early afternoon until the game was over. We could of sold that 5,000 four times over that Sunday, and what makes me laugh, it says you was born in 83, i was watching Palace before you was born, and am sure there are plenty who watched before i was born, so stop being so smug, Palace is not a team that attracts plastic fans, you either have palace in your blood or you dont..

And how can you not be gutted if we went down? No guarantee we would bounce back, and suddenly we are in a situation again of losing our best players and a manager who is doing wonders, the Premier League is the pinnacle of English football, so why would anyone want to leave it?

Just when I thought that I was out...........they pull me back in
