Its simple unless we start to beat the better sides which we have to play at home now we will be relegated.
We are not going to go away to the lesser teams and get much joy overall. We may nick 1 or 2 draws and maybe 1 away win, with our remaining away fixtures, but unless we start to beat the top sides which we have at home its Championship football next season.
We have to start to beat the top 8 sides at home with our remaining matches

This!
Our record against the top 8 sides is played 11, drawn 1 and we have 5 of those games left to go - Chelsea, Liverpool and City at home and Everton and Newcastle away - so - 1 point out of a possible 33 so far.
If we follow that form then the other games are the only possibilities.
We have been unlucky at times but when you don't score goals you have a problem against these top teams.
Whilst these games aren't the games to generally define one's season it certainly helps to pick up a few points here and there against them to relieve the pressure.
We must get at least one win at home against Chelsea, City or Liverpool to have a chance as the teams around us are not going to roll over at their place and help us.
It will come down to Fulham away at the end of the season - let's hope they are already down by then!

This subject is going to be done to death as we approach May, but would Fulham being mathematically relegated make any difference?

On the one hand, you have despondent home fans v mental away fans; dispirited players with nothing to play for v a team truly up for a knock-out game with huge consequences for team and player.

On the other, Fulham will have no pressure and finally be freed to play their game to their strengths. The players will either be fighting to stay in the team or use the game as a shop window. And if they win and climb a place, while relegated they will still get a £1.5 merit payment.

40 points has to be the target and looking at our remaining games, it is definately achievable.

Our away games plus Saints / Villa will define whether we stay up or not

An away point at a rival is a point gained for us and two lost for them..

We must beat Southampton and Villa though - they are not games we can afford to draw or lose

Villa yes but Southampton can be very good. Well happy with a draw I'd be.

Both tough games, Villa alot better away than at home. Comes back to the point that we NEED to take something from our home games against Chelski, the Scousers and Cite cos I don't think we'll win both games. And our away record need to improve too..drastically ! Oh, woe is me

Remaining games besides surefure home losses to top teams:

CPalace GD: -18

Team GD H/A Likely Points
Swansea City -5 A ?
Southampton 6 H ?
Sunderland -16 A 1
Newcastle United -5 A ?
Cardiff City -29 A 3
Aston Villa -10 H 1
West Ham United -3 A ?
Fulham -32 A 3

Total 8

Takeaway: We'll have to get results away against teams which have a better goal differential than us to stay up if we need 11 points. Sunderland and/or Southampton are the key games. That's assuming GD is the best predictive measure.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
