If we go down our vocal support and those true Palace fans will continue to generate the atmosphere we are now famous for.
On the other hand if we continue in the Premier league we will be eventually sanitized by sky and fans who come for premiership football not Palace specifically.
It may take a few years, but eventually peoples expectations will rise, they will start moaning for getting a draw at home to the wet spams and such like. Start calling for the managers head after 1 or 2 defeats. Prawns will be bought by the ton load, there be a separate car park for the rich fans limos. The true working class faithful will feel even more marginalised their enthusiasm will waver and 1 by 1 they won't be so vocal and we'll go down, because our support right now is what is keeping us afloat.

Funny, I thought it was our team and manager who were doing that.

Of course Seth the team and manager are doing that, but I don't think we would be sitting 3 places above relegation without the help of both the HF and our vocal support. I'm responding to the OP question regarding atmosphere.
I'm referring to group dynamics and how over a certain time frame atmosphere will change due to these dynamics. Its a certainty that over time what has helped us i.e atmosphere will waver. This is due to the sanitation that is Sky Sports and TV.
There was a time not so long ago that if you wanted to watch Palace you had to go to watch Palace. Prolonged period in the premiership will change this.
Personally i would take the premiership and this gamble all day long as I want to see palace play the top teams, but if we are still up in the top flight in say 4 years time mark my words it will be prawns and over exhausted expectations all round the ground come match days.

I think that you’re comments are a bit OTT as you’re implying that only those people that make a lot of noise are true Palace fans which is a load of nonsense.

Some people like to sing and shout and leap around all the time whilst others prefer to watch the football but both can be classified as true fans.

If you disagree then I guess that makes Steve Parish a plastic as I very much doubt whether he has ever spent his time at Selhurst Park leaping up and down and chanting.

Whilst no longer a regular at Selhurst Park I used to be for many years but wasn’t one for chanting or leaping but that didn’t make me any less of a fan than those that did and whilst the noise levels may have been less in those days it didn’t affect the team’s performance and we played well and won matches when we had a good team and played badly and lost when we didn’t.

The comments about prawns was also a bit daft as football ceased being a working class man’s sport many decades ago and quite right too. I started going to Selhurst 40 years ago and there were loads of middle classes there at the time – just as there are now and it’s unlikely to ever change

I would say the longer we stay in the premier league, the worse our amosphere will be. Look at the other sets of supporters in the division, even the away fans don't sing.

It's embarrassing the amount of plaudits our support gets. It says much more about the typical premiership atmosphere than about how noisey we are.

only for the other teams.

Last week someone posted a comment from a woman at the Arsenal game "why don't they just sit down and watch the game", like we were in the wrong.

We should be proud of the noise we make, the players need it, it builds them up, and if it becomes even the slightest bit intimidating for the opposition then even better. If I want to sit in silence watching football, i'll get sky and watch it at home thanks.

The same Arsenal fans who the commentator mentioned on MOTD as starting to leave Anfield on Saturday when they went 3 or 4 down...

I may be wrong but I cant remember anyone leaving the night they pasted us 9-0

I think our vocal support hinges on the HF to be honest - take them away and we'd be like everybody else, if not worse.

If you took the HF out of the equation our support would still be one of the more vocal support in the Premier but certainly would not stand out from all of the rest in the country.

Let me try and clear up some of your assumptions.

"If we go down our vocal support and those true Palace fans "
I think if you read it properly i'm implying that both our vocal support and our true fans (whether they sing or not).
When regarding to the prawn brigade i'm referring to the fan of premiership football not Crystal Palace. This type of fan will surely leave us if we go down and quite frankly good riddance and please take your sandwiches with you.
You are entitled to support your team as you see fit Ian, but thank god we don't all share in your boisterous approach to supporting Palace otherwise frankly it would be a bore to go to games.

It's great we have a good atmosphere and fans who like to sing but I think you're giving it too much credit for what's happening on the pitch. Sure it helps encourage the players but it's not a given that the noisiest fans = the most successful teams by any stretch.

Our most successful time ever was before the HF were around and I'd say the fans don't make as much difference as you'd like to think.
