He is not here to love the club, he's here to make us a competitive unit and keep us in the PL. Peter Taylor and Ian Holloway loved the club, but....

Pulis knows what he's doing. If he guided Stoke to Premier League stability over the last 6 years, who's to say he can't do it with Palace?

If he keeps us up (and I know he will) at the end of the season, then he should get the Manager of the Year award.

When he's interviewed, win, lose or draw, he always seems have his feet firmly planted on the ground. He knows he can't get carried away, or be over-expectant.

It's his levelheaded-ness and pragmatism that will keep us up. If the results aren't going our way, then by all means question his commitment, but he is delivering the results and is fully committed to the job at hand. He may learn to love the club, but as long as he continues to provide results, I don't think we can complain! Many of us treated Dougie being our manager as a fairy tale waiting to happen, and look how that turned out?

He is unbelievably professional, and that's what matters at the end of the day. You can't expect someone to join a club and instantly buy into every aspect of it, but he has an opportunity here to become a historic manager and who knows where he will lead us. If we stay up, he has to be retained for aslong as he delivers results, because he can help grow the club like he did at Stoke.

Fairs fair ,thought it was only decent of me to post whilst not being a T.P.lover as many of are aware.

Good result sat,but glad to see Ince,Ledley score on their debuts.

But here's my bug with him C.J has been woeful for most of his games and Gayle could have performed in that roaming role like Ince did on saturday all along.
And Ledley has got to be more an asset in m/f pushing forward rather than L/b very strange?

Anyway great to have FFS back.

Tony Pulis is an excellent manager, and probably close to achieving a Palace historical achievement - Remaining in the premiership, despite being handed a team that were rightly written off as relegated.

It might not be the most attractive football, but its tactically asute and adept, based on exploitation of strengths and minimising of weaknesses. A lot of managers could learn a thing or two about adaptability in football from him, and Martinez. Other managers talk tactics, but they base their theory on what they know. Martinez and Pulis have an almost mathematical approch to a game where 'possession' is vaunted as the ideal, they play a guerilla football.

Pulis's achievements in the premier league are probably only eclipsed by Wenger and Ferguson. Other managers have achieved more, such as Muarino, but they did it backed by huge cash reserves and the pick of the worlds best.

Pulis is the Viet Cong to the Premier League 'American US Military'. The very fact he's got us in competition for premiership survival should be greated with applause and respect. If he achieves it, then he should be raised up to the same kind of status reserved for the likes of Ferguson.

It might not be the prettiest, but its not about how good you look, its entirely about points.

Superb manager. Really good. He's gonna keep us up for sure.

But hearing his post-match interview it is obvious that he hasn't got an ounce of love for Palace and to him it is just a job and a great challenge.

Venables, Coppell and even Dowie......they somehow belonged even if short-lived for two of them.

Is this the reason why there are no TP songs? The fact that we all know that this relationship has zero to do with passion and everything to do with pragmatism?

I love the fact we are going to stay up but i don't like the other fact that I can't warm to our manager even though i admire him.

The drawback of success?

Edited by Kermit8 (09 Feb 2014 12.13am)

I agree, Instead of saying 'us' or 'we' he always refers to the club/team as 'the football club' which is a clear indication that there is no love there at all and its just a job.
I see that as a positive though in that he is clearly an honest man that finds it difficult to waltz in and after 5 minutes start acting like he's a life long fan. If he is enjoying the challenge, being well paid for it and not (yet) being courted by bigger clubs with bigger spending budgets I'm sure he'll stay and as time moves on I think he will grow to have affection for the club and then his feelings for Palace will be genuine and not just paying lip service to the fans (like one or two previous managers I could name!)

He'll love us when we are all dancing on the Craven Cottage pitch last game of the season after Chammers 90 + 5 penalty keeps us up

We're in a position where that game could be irrelivent. We have the potential to be safe by then. As opposed to when he took over, where we might have been relegated with dubious 'Derby county' honours.

I don't really understand those who denigrate Pulis. The purpose of football is to win matches and reach, then remain in, top flight. The size of your budget can either aid or abet this goal. Pulis has consistently led his teams to both success and survival. Surely it is those outcomes that define his position as an absolutely top-class manager?

Playing "Arsenal-style" possession football versus "Pulis-style" power football certainly involves two different kettles of fish but why is one better than the other and who is to say it is, anyway? No one says Monet is a better artist than Leonardo is a better artist than Picasso because one group of people finds one's style more aesthetically pleasing than another's. They are all world-class artists who just depict things in different ways; not better or worse, just different. The same with music; no one can say Mozart is better than Beethoven is better than Mahler. They all compose music recognised as sublime in vastly different styles. Did someone appoint Alan Hansen or whoever the definitive arbiter of taste while I was out of the room?

The "Pulis football is coarse" argument is absolutely pathetic. His teams are organised, powerful, near impossible to break down, well coached, responsible and, dare I say it, even exciting. I don't know about you, but winning on a regular basis in the Premiership is pretty exciting in my book, and with two genuine wingers at that. The fact that without a big-four budget, Pulis is doing it by making a silk purse out of a sow's ear makes it even more impressive.

In reality, any idiot can manage a team with a Chelsea-sized budget. Even Moyes, who is pathologically useless, has Man. Utd. in the top seven in spite of his lack of competence rather than because of it. I don't see that we're playing a brand of football that's any better or any worse than any other team in our area of the table except possibly Swansea. And with better players having come in during the last window, I'm sure Pulis will have us playing a more attacking brand of football too. Anyone want Holloway and his "prettier football" back? Thought not.

Glad to see the majority are appreciating TP.

You can understand why he still has a soft spot for Stoke. His achievement with us was nothing short of miraculous and it looks like he may achieve a miracle at Palace as well. You were dead and buried before he joined and now youre level with us (didn't want him to do that well but never mind). Like people have hinted in terms of what he does hes every bit the manager that Mourinho, Wenger and Ferguson are. In reality do you believe any of them could have turned your season around ? Don't think he ever won a manager of the month in ten years, which says more about how the awards are distributed rather than anything about TP

Ok his football isn't always that good to watch but in the situation youre in surely its better than watching pretty tippy tappy stuff but losing every week.

Just to correct a couple of misconceptions though

I don't think that he was sacked. Rumour is he had a strong disagreement with a couple of clowns who took charge of our transfer policy and it was genuine agreement by both parties that he left.

Althuough at the beginning he worked on a very tight budget the last two years saw us spend near on £80million.

Anyway I genuinely hope he keeps you up (goodbye Fulham, Cardiff and West Brazil). Would really like him to bring you back to the Brit, Im sure he would get a fantastic reception

It would be good for CPFC to celebrate a second consecutive season in the PL this August for the first time, with TP still with us.
With 9 managers in 9 years, a bit of management stability would be nice.

Doesn't TP know the 'curse of the ex-Palace manager?

Holloway: heading downwards with Millwall.
Freedman: same direction with Bolton.
Burley: fired from Limassol, now unemployed.
Hart: at ClownTown, favourites for relegation.
Colin: no proper job, a 'rent-a-quote' troll.
Taylor: at Gillingham again trying to keep them in L1.
Dowie: a SkySports 'rentamouth'.
Francis: not managed anywhere since CPFC in 2003.

A quick glance at the current CV of the previous eight should be enough to keep TP at Selhurst for a while.

The man is here to do a job and at the moment he is doing more than expected.

True or not I dont know but I heard he's on a bonus of a Mill to keep us up.

He doesn't have to love the club or the fans (that may come in the future)just let him do his business, keep us up if possible, then we shall see.

By the way I like the bloke, even when he was a Stokie, put out a strong team and not one club liked playing them and the Brittania was a fcking noisey place then, gone a bit quieter now....maybe they did stick Delhila up there arse
