The thing to consider is everyone elses games - we cant in isolation say we might get so many here or so many there to reach a magic number All the clubs in the bottom 10 or 11 will be doing the same and all we need to do is look to win as many as we can and the total and table will look after itself. If I was a Norwich fan I would want to be safe before the last 4 games thats for sure Last night was hugely pivotal though - we have a cushion, albeit small, to the bottom three and mentally for us (and their fragility) thats a great thing to have Definitely sashman - I don't think many teams will fancy coming to Selhurst and we have got some points in the bag now. And let's face it, no one makes a living from betting on football matches because the unexpected frequently happens. It will be close and will be up and down, but this is Palace so what else would it be ? But I'd rather be us than anyone else and I bet we pull off one shock result...

I've put a spreadsheet together showing all the remaining games with a prediction of their outcome, by me, and what the table will look like at the end of season if it goes that way. It's up to date as of last night's results. Happy to share the spready with anyone who wants it. This is my prediction so far .... Manchester City 94 That would be very nice. Survival plus about £10.5M merit paymemt for 14th place. Personaly, I doubt we will get 36 points; but even if we get my predicted 32 - still safe, the same position and still safe by mid-April.

I think Sunderland were very lucky last night, so thats a good or a bad thing depending how you look at it - however it appears Poyet has got Bridcutt and thats a good signing. Annoyingly, they might be ok, but it will be an almighty scrap and I back us in a fight. Tomorrow is going to be mental and this year I will actually follow all the nonsense. I think HOL should be suspended for the evening while everyone gets swept up by the hype and beer is imbibed... !

I think we can get around 38-40 points but we will need to dig in. There is plenty more seat of the pants stuff to come this season - as I suspect most realise.

We don't need 17 points. It's now widely accepted that the safety mark is 38 points and in all probability less. Only 3 teams in the last 10 years, from among 30 relegated, have missed that mark. In the same reason a couple of years ago two went down with 39 (including Ollie's Blackpool team -- in a freak year). And Colin's Sheff Utd. team went down on goal difference with 38. The other 27 sides to reach 38 points all stayed up. Indeed, generally 35 or 36 points will see you safe (not that we'd want to risk it). In some years, 32 would have been enough. Be clear, this is a freak season at both ends of the table. Things are very compressed. That being the case it is highly likely that it's a year where not many points will be needed to survive as teams will take points off each other. In 2009/10 the three teams that went down had 30, 30, and 19 points. This season could well throw up similarly low totals. If we get to 38 points, we are nailed on to survive. I suspect 35 will be enough.
that will give me a heart attack. please please please can we do it easier.......
Long enough to have watched this battle for top flight survival 4 times. Just cos it's par for the course doesn't make it any easier.

In my eyes I think it'll be Cardiff, West Ham and Fulham to go down this season, Sunderland are flying and have a squad now.... Will be interesting for sure.....
Another exciting pre-season ....... |
