I'd rather have the negativity of Steve Parish than Assem Allam at Hull or Vincent Tan at Cardiff!!!!

I agree with Syd to a point, owners/chairmen should keep out of the publicity, but to dismiss SP completely as arrogant is wrong. He should be able to desire some recognition (call it arrogance if you must). Without him and the board we would not have either the training ground or Selhurst Park, or even a football club a club. So stop knocking him for his failings. We all have them. Even you syd, as you admit.

And please try to spell his name correctly. It only makes you look less plausible. No offence intended.

Tan is an idiot in search of a village. No question there. Allam, however, is far more complex than people like to think. Those who write him off as an overbearing immigrant profiteer are far wide of the mark; there's no question he has a communications problem (as in, he doesn't know how to communicate properly) but there's far more good about him than bad. I suspect that ultimately Hull will have a happy ending because he's a good owner. Cardiff, on the other hand, won't. (Well, to be accurate, Cardiff will have a happy ending, but only for Palace supporters when Cardiff go down.)

Even more reason to not want to hear him. You may be right about Hull's "happy ending", but I envisage a few protests for him to go. Especially with the name change fiasco.

The interesting thing about Allam is that 99% of what he's done for Hull City is fantastically good. And he's not an arriviste from Russia or the Gulf; he's spent the last 30 years in Hull. Other than the 1% that has no idea how to communicate or when to shut up, he's a dream owner; local, generous, supports his manager; has taken the club up and is trying to keep them there, etc. But one dumb move exacerbated by a self-defeating publicity campaign and the 1% is destroying the 99%. I really don't get him, on some levels, at all.

I thought that I would just add a bit of extra emphasis to that all important phrase that he supports his manager

Whilst true, do the fans not matter?

Really don't understand what all the fuss is about. He was asked about the transfer window and answered truthfully, clarifying or position. It's not like he's kicking down doors reminding everyone personally that we don't have any money.

All of you have missed it. SP has put it out that we are not going o spend big in this window which, sends a message to all clubs that we may be negotiating with or about to. He is playing everything down.

Never under estimate SP, he is nobody's fool and I for one am bl**dy glad we have got him .

He can send the same message out when talking directly to players, agents and the selling clubs as it doesn't have to be done in a blaze of media publicity after all the people on here are very fond of telling others not to believe everything they read in the press

I'd say this: I grew up when the football people did the talking (and trust me, Bert Head didn't do a lot of that.) So when I want to listen to what's happening at my football club I want to hear the football people update me. I don't pay money to watch the chairman at work every week.

To me, some figures in a club should be seen and not heard. The first chairman to really break that rule and become a largely public figure was Ron Noades and (while I did broadly like Ron) I don't think that was a change for the better.

Sadly, today egotists buy football clubs and think that because they've arrived in a bit of money, they're entitled to centre stage. There was a time when it was enough for owners to get their glory behind the closed doors of the boardroom and in the local business community.

Personally, I like John Henry, Liverpool's owner (to give one example) because he's not forever trying to hog the limelight. He lets his manager get on with being the voice and face of the club. Yes, Palace are a small business and Liverpool are a big one but I still want to hear TP and not a grown-up wide boy with a bad haircut who has nothing to do with the football itself.

Well, you did ask.

But you do Syd.

You're paying to watch what the Chairmens' money has been spent on and used by the manager that they've appointed.

I like to hear from SP personally, and let's not forget that he's the mouthpiece for our own G4 in himself, Browett, Long and Hoskins. SB is not shy of speaking publically but it really isn't the SP show...and I'd far rather have a group of 4 lifelong supporters running the club than overseas opportunists any day of the week. The fact that one or two of them are happy to be heard is a positive for me.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Absolutely, and SP simultaneously managed to communicate that there are 'lots of irons in the fire' (reassuring for supporters) and that CP are not splashing the cash and spending cautiously (essential massage to agents and selling clubs) Very skilful performance!
