18.3.89 Palace 1 Sunderland 0 The charge to promotion begins. A lucky victory through a Bright penalty lifts us out of our rut and onto a run of 9 wins in our next 11 games. In the picture a Sunderland defender is down injured as Wright looks on. Attachment: ScannedImage-7.jpg (168.26Kb)

8.4.89 Palace 2 Oldham 0 Comfortable win through Barber and Bright. Wright and Bright here on the prowl at a corner. Amazing to think that exactly a year later these teams would both be playing in FA Cup semi final clashes. Attachment: ScannedImage-23.jpg (281.89Kb)

11.4.89 Hull 0 Palace 1 An Ian Wright goal keeps the promotion push rolling. Players salute the travelling support before kick off. Note the dangerous spikes on the fence have been painted in Hull colours - how friendly!! Attachment: ScannedImage-24.jpg (190.84Kb)

25.10.88 Palace 1 Oxford 0 An evening game won by a Neil Redfearn penalty. Redfearn's days at Palace were numbered after putting in a transfer request. Can anyone remember why? I bet he now wishes he hadn't! In the picture, a young John Salako watches from between the posts. This started a 4 match spell playing up front alongside Bright due to an Ian Wright ankle injury. 22.10.88 Palace 3 Hull 1 Two Barber goals and an Ian Wright effort sealed the win. Hull's scorer that day was none other than Alex Dyer (is that him at No.11?), just 2 weeks before he signed for us for £225,000. Dyer had a habit of scoring against us, adding that goal to one the previous season and two the season before that, stopping us from a possible play off place on the last day. Shame he never really showed similar promise in Palace colours. My one abiding memory from the pictured game was that Pemberton and Dyer were having a right battle all afternoon. At one point Pembo got the better of him in front of the Arthur Wait and ran past him giving him the 'wa*ker sign' much to everyones delight. In the picture (l-r) Pardew, Pemberton & Redfearn. Thanks, Bubbs. Will have a good gander at these over the weekend. My most memorable (and addictive) times being a Palace fan was 78-91 so look forward to it.

24.2.85 Palace 0 Wimbledon 5 One of the most humiliating games i've ever been to but produced this great photo. Jim Cannon tries unsuccessfully to stop Wimbledon plunder their 3rd goal in front of the Sainsbury's End. His momentum carries him right to the barriers just in front of us; he rests on them in despair and utters the immortal line: "RIGHT F**KING GAME AND A HALF THIS IS!" As you can probably see he later kindly signed the photo, and was very amused to turn the photo over and see that my friend had written word for word what he'd said. some lovely pics & good memories there Bubbs - but this one of Jimbo is top class
