So, do you wear a nearly pointless piece of fabric over your mouth and nose or not? 3-30% of particles trapped inside the mask of worn correctly. Big if. No particles prevented from being congested. Could actually be worse with it absorbing particles. I think we could be in for further trouble regarding restrictions, control and economic suicide if ‘the virus is airborne’ doom mongering influences at least one government.

Johnson is wearing a mask so that conclusively rules out them being of any use whatsoever. Aren't these things actually spreading germs, when the mask is taken off what happens. It is left with its germs to be re-used or re-cycled or trashed? Has to be burnt immediately surely. A gimmick.

Florida is at 15,000 known cases per day, god knows how many actual.. and a high number of full critical care wards. That will increase the death rate considerably. Once you're at 15k a day, even if people are careful it's incredibly difficult to get the number down without further lockdowns, and who wants that? Better to take steps to keep the number low and let it rumble along at that level, that way businesses have a fighting chance and if people need to be hopsitalised they can be. Doing our bit now is preferable to saying how stupid it all is, then being outraged when there's no hospital bed available if you or a loved one become ill. But yes BoJo wearing one is largely symbolic. He's already had bad case of covid-19 so is unlikely to be able to get it again any time soon. He's wearing one because of the attitudes towards wearing them and for the sake of improving public health. Here's 70 mask studies for your reading list: [Link] and a recent one: [Link] "We do know social distancing reduces the risk of transmitting the virus by 90 percent, and wearing masks decreases the risk by 65 percent." Implying that masks make things worse has no basis in reality. I wasn't overly in favour of a wear masks in shops mandate, but at least it would put a lot of this stuff to bed and serve a purpose. It looks like Boris will end up have to nanny the public on this one. Edited by BlueJay (13 Jul 2020 3.51pm)

That's f@cking awesome. I can even cure the virus if I wash my hands too.

Look at all the back crap when the rules first came out.

Part of it is denial too, but this isn't something that's going to be wished away anytime soon. As you say, take basic steps to be respectful of others, good hygiene and all and I doubt we'll be going too far wrong.
