The fact both sides have no credible candidates under grandfather time age is a sad indication of the malaise within our society as a whole.

How do we not have two younger candidates than the geriatric trump and Biden with fresh ideas, impetus and vigour. Absolute hinterland

It's not hyperbolic, you only have to listen to the actual Democrat elite themselves. They are acting like the Mongols are at the door because they know....job wise and prosecution wise, what they have been doing is going to be turned onto them.

However, on your candidate point I fully concur....it's ridiculous.

To a certain extent they are fronts for the real power behind them....Both Trump and now Biden weren't given information or had it delayed so that decisions were taken away from them.

The Shogun always holds the real power not the emperor in the case of the US it's the state and defence departments.

However, that's not really much of a democracy is it......In truth, in practical terms, we have been part autocracy/donor class and corpocracy for a long time.

Why on earth is a Trump apologist getting himself into a self-induced lather over what Letitia James said after resting her case against Trump beats me.

Unless, of course, all he is doing is blowing more propaganda smoke over the truth!

The truth is simple. What she said is completely true. The Judge did make a determination that Trump overvalued his properties before this trial began. This trial was not to determine that. It was only to determine the level of penalties to be applied.

Not that those who believe this is all just a political assassination will see that.

For the avoidance of any doubt, not that it’s either anybody else’s business or that it will be remembered or even acknowledged by certain posters, the only legal case I have been involved in as a landlord was to request possession from someone who hadn’t paid rent for over 6 months. That case never proceeded because the tenant died, leaving the debt and a mess. The £10,000 I am still fighting for, as has been explained before, has nothing to do with any property. The “legal finding” wasn’t in court. It was by the Valuation Tribunal. An experience I don’t recommend as the whole system of property valuation is ludicrous, unfair and archaic.

So whatever happened in the local court had nothing to do with me. I therefore hope these silly, juvenile and snide personal remarks will stop and a return can be made to the subject of each thread.

Rattled!

Of course not. When there’s not a sliver of truth in the tacky assertions there’s nothing to be rattled about.

Just bored, annoyed at the pettiness and surprised it continues.

This sort of thing resembles the playground. It’s just not grown up behaviour.

Everybody knows its a kangaroo court....it's so dirty that the Democrats deserve it to rebound on them. I mean it's not as though Trump didn't maintain any gas appliances is it.

The Democrats overturned the unwritten social contract and used lawfare about Republicans and their supporters and now money is being diverted to attack them back......because that's the only thing these people understand.

Biden is now concerned about impeachment (I've never supported this behaviour but the Democrats are only getting back what they started) and is reported to be highly concerned about the case against his son.

I'm not surprised....because he himself is involved in all that dirty corrupt business.

It's not only the republicans out for Biden.....there are fractions within the Democrat party who want him gone and are willing to pressure him using the same dirty tactics they use against Trump.

Progressives have always been fine with the racism they support.

I don't have an issue with honesty, it's been the lying and double standards that's annoying.

Chinese americans have been going nuts. Its about them consistently getting top school grades...... and then being passed-over for University places by, ahem, other more deserving ethnic minorities. The minorities that often get the crappy grades.

It seems that There are heroic ethnic minorities....and then there are other minorities. Reminds me of the BBC.

So once again our resident know it all is making silly assertions!

We don’t all “know this is a “kangaroo court”! I certainly don’t! Primarily though because it isn’t and could not be.

Even if the judicial and political systems in the USA are more entwined than we are used to, especially at Supreme Court level, Judges are still Judges whose loyalty is to the law. Every accused has the complete freedom to offer their defence which is properly considered, usually by an independent jury. So no kangaroos.

The assertion that these are political prosecutions arises from the propaganda being spread by Trump and his supporters in an effort to divert attention from the actual events. They claim there must be a coordinated campaign because there are so many happening at the same time. What they conveniently decide to ignore is that there are very good reasons for that, which have nothing to do with the Democrats. Trump managed to remain immune from prosecution for 4 years and to add to his problems interfered with the election process and the transfer of power. He then retained records he wasn’t entitled to. The reason they all arrived at once is solely down to Trump. Nothing to with the Democrats or anyone else.

It’s just the law running its course. Are ex-Presidents above the law? Not in my book!

Biden, from all I have read, has no reason at all to be concerned about any impact on him arising from his son’s activities. If there is, then he should face precisely the same due process as Trump.

I am sure there are many US voters who would like to see both Trump and Biden gone. However in the case of the Democrats and Biden only because of his age and not because of any worries about corruption.

Lawfare is an interesting term, now being made popular by a populist and his supporters in an effort to deflect attention away from the actual accusations. It’s been given a new meaning because it originally meant the use of the law by the wealthy and powerful to intimidate the weak and vulnerable. Something Trump has often done himself.

[Link]

The current use of the term arises from the right in the USA and it’s sad to see it being parroted here. It can only be because too much attention is being given to “alternative” news sources in the USA. Something supported by the frequent copy and paste of dubious videos and the frequent use of American spelling and vernacular.

This coming from someone who claims to be a proud Englishman, feels a little odd.

I had a disturbing conversation with some relatives of ours in California yesterday. They have always seemed objective and thoughtful with their politics. Whilst naturally conservative they supported Obama. So when they told me they were now supporting Trump I was shocked and even more so by the reasoning which repeated all the mantras being fed into the public consciousness by the right.

For them Trump’s legal problems are all political set ups. Biden is pursuing an open border policy. Etc etc. The kind of thing our resident expert on Trump propaganda repeats here regularly. What’s disturbing is that people like them believe it. There wasn’t a word of condemnation for the disgusting actions of Trump. Only sympathy for the way he is being “treated”. He is recreating himself as a martyr and people are believing it. I know memories are short but surely this is off the scale.

This cannot continue. There will need to be a rethink on how to halt this spiral down.

When it comes to a throw down I don't rate the left's chances.

They tried to rainbow the military and suffer recruitment problems and they can have as many progressive generals as they like. The vast bulk of any military are right wing or right of centre and are never going to turn their guns on....well something like Maga. They would most likely stay out of any of it....Perhaps it would come down to state militias....the old Antifa v Proud Boy types.....modern day mods and rockers....where the mods are into bumming each other.

Low scale activist conflicts, in some states more than others, until agreements to legally secede.

Essentially the direction of travel into conflict suits the right....and those on the left who think there is a physical resolution or you can jail and force half of the country into lives they don't want then you are only playing into their hands....Eventually you create the radicalism by forcing people....Human nature.

Russell Brand is sensible on this kind of thing.....Let communities live how they want to live and stop fighting them and get on where you can. No one needs to be the other's bow. That means that America splits into two then that's what happens....they can make common defence agreements like Nato, but the current centre just isn't going to hold like this.

Let the left live their neo commie fantasies and let the right live their libertarian one.....and let them both police those systems and throw out the fifth columnists who like to pretend they stand for you while tearing you down.

Been saying it for years.

The idea that the US military would take political sides is, hopefully, very far fetched for it would result in a complete disaster. I cannot imagine the very disciplined military not following the orders of their commanders or those commanders not following the instructions of their CIC. Unless, of course, that CIC exceeded their authority. Which regrettably now seems conceivable. I imagine that should any “activists” start to make trouble beyond the scope of local law and order to handle that the National Guard would be asked to assist and only in very extreme circumstances would it have to be elevated.

Our resident know something (about everything) often pontificates about how the USA is bound to break up. He’s “been saying it for years”, and here it is again. It isn’t something much discussed here, but apparently is in the USA. So we know where this something comes from. Which given where much of the content comes from is unsurprising. So I thought I ought to take a look myself.

There is a lot of discussion, that’s true. Not all of it believing it is either feasible or sensible. This was interesting:-

As anyone who has been through a divorce knows the divorce itself is the simple bit. It’s the division of the assets, who has custody of the children, who has the dog and retains the house that’s the difficult stuff. Some can sort things out amicably but they are those who didn’t ought to be getting divorced in the first place. Those who really need to separate often need a Judge to order how things are settled. I don’t see a suitable Judge for the US states. In any case the individual states already possess quite a lot of independence so what would be the point. All pain and no gain.
