Sorry Willo ... any group that voted in Liz Truss has not earned my respect. A Broad church of ill informed or inexperienced people albeit across a plethora of professions and industries who made a very bad call when all the warnings were there. With respect I am not in agreement and I articulate from experience having had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of members over the years. Edited by Willo (23 Oct 2022 11.47pm)

I have been an active member for many, many a year and I certainly do not recognize this description of the membership. We are a 'Broad church' with life experiences across a plethora of professions and industries. I accept that 40% of our membership are 65 or over, however we are not in the main jowly old souls who are detached from reality. Edited by Willo (23 Oct 2022 11.32pm) Your distain for people 65 and over could not have been any clearer. Age can be accompanied by wisdom. On the other hand, I suppose that idea is contradicted if one is 65 or over and still a member of the Tory party.

Rishi Sunak - who as Chancellor oversaw the highest inflation in 40 years, the biggest drop in living standards since 1956, the biggest fall in wages since records began & UK trade performance at its worst level on record wants to “fix our economy”. He fixed it alright, for himself and his rich banker mates. I think the huge debt is a millstone round any new man, but the tories have borrowed recklessly they are not the party of sound money. I agree , nothing to choose between Conservative and Labour on tax and borrow now
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

With Sunak coming in I suppose the cast in stone triple lock pension will be removed.

Age may be accompanied by wisdom but it is also accompanied by a lack of appreciation of the experiences of the young and those of us still in work and trying to make ends meet and pay the bills etc. (And indeed those of us approaching pension age without the benefit of the same opportunities the older generation enjoyed).

Nothing is stable anymore. Indeed. Can you imagine if the premier league entrusted its future direction to about 0.1% of the fans? The law of averages would suggest the clubs most of them would support. As I keep saying - Tory members are l, in my opinion, a whole bunch of entitled people detached from reality. (Evidence of that? Liz Truss getting in). Edited by Helmet46 (24 Oct 2022 7.46am)

Or they are just interested in who leads the party rather than the best interests of the country, which is hardly surprising. I doubt Labour activists consider the feelings of non Labour supporters when voting for a new leader and why should they. This is the problem with party politics the members will only be interested in what is best for them. Let's face it most of us aren't that passionate enough to actually join a political party so those that do are hardly likely to think about the overall good of the country. I am assuming this morning Penny Mourdant will be told to withdraw for the good of the party. Edited by Badger11 (24 Oct 2022 8.12am) Edited by Badger11 (24 Oct 2022 8.12am)

However, being interested in who leads the party - when that person will become PM should require a slightly wider viewpoint with the blinkers removed and a little bit more intelligence. Regardless of the party (Labour/Conservative etc), or the person etc politicians have the uncanny ability to turn everything into a clusterf***.
