But people still wore boxes.

Plastic 'Boxes' one slid down one's pants and placed them so that they protected sensitive parts of the anatomy.

They were used then and in this present era there are 'Abdominal Guards' and 'Cups with jockstraps'.

They were better than my beer mat shin guards.

Didn't work for Bumble Lloyd who got hit "amidships" by Jeff Thomson and his box split open then snapped shut on what it was supposed to be protecting. Quite uncomfortable apparently.

Graham Thorpe has died. He was a good player.

RIP.

Indeed, I've always liked cricket but I was a particularly avid cricket nut in the nineties, sad news to hear of his passing at this young age.

You'd hear rumours of difficulties he had a while back but this is out of the blue.

Can't have been that old. I remember him being England's best, possibly the world's best, batsman for a time. RIP Graham Thorpe.

Don't know much about cricket but he always seemed an elegant player. According to his obit he had been ill for quite a while.

RIP

Graham Thorpe was an accomplished player and coach, rescued our batting often when we were not that great, especially against spin which he learned in Asia.

Had his personal problems, I guess we will hear about his illness.

100 tests, 16 centuries, an ideal test player who could dig in when necessary.

Somehow he doesn't spring to mind as an England great, but I don't know why.

Sad when a sportsman dies so young.

RIP
