It is bizzare. I guess you see similar when public figures die and so on but as you said for a stranger and a criminal one at that. I guess he is probably crying for the end of his own political ambitions.

It's massively important in the short term....but there's also a sense of the theatrically absurd about it....Real popcorn stuff. Perhaps it's because it's between two ancient figures who are really on different planets.

And who is in charge of the police? Yup the same Mayor trying to virtue signal rather than take responsibility. Either this death was the action of rogue police officers and is not typical in which case he should back the police department, or as the protestors believe this is endemic in which case stand up and admit that you have failed to tackle the problem. I expect he will do neither and try to weasel his way around.
