Exactly this! gone are the days of being linked with players in the same category as West Ham, Everton, Southampton and Stoke where we lose out on all of them due to being the small, unappealing club. Now comes the time where we steal their best and give them nothing in return but a what if! Happy days.

If you are referring to Tomkins in your comment about "stealing their best" let's not forget that he couldn't get into their first team which is why he was so keen to move

The Tomkins deal took a while from the first announcement and that is a comparatively small fee and there may be other issues with his wages. Cabaye may well have a clause in his contract guaranteeing him being the top earner for instance. I really hope this happens but it could still be a while.

This is not a criticism just an observation that any transfer deal we are involved in seems to take a long time.

Mandanda, Townsend and Tomkins all seemed pretty quick.

Out of contract, release clause, comparatively small fee. Big transfers take longer.

I'd also be inclined to say that the fact there is no news could be a good sign.

Good point, but supposing we have increased our offer to the full asking price of £30m, and the deal is still not completed by Friday, doubtful it will ever happen and we perhaps should look at alternatives.
