Very short sighted of Sainsbury's IMO if they put a block on our stadium plans for the sake of a car park. Just think of the extra potential footfall going into the Sainsbury's attached to the ground, with potentially 10,000 extra punters, every other week for the forseeable I believe that Sainsbury's closes at 1200 on match days.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Unethical but due to this never going anywhere i reckon the only solution is buying land and compulsory purchase orders put in place. Then sit on it until such time the finances allow the build. There is just no way unless Sainsbury's make a massive loss on the store that hey are going anywhere. Whitehorse Meadow - directly opposite the WH End. Be bloody perfect if it wasn't for the pesky 40 family houses there.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave [Rant] Boycott and blockade Sainsburys, picket and protest every damn day until they have enough and decide to be reasonable. Seriously Selhurst Park and CPFC are a part of our community, Sainsburys are just a bunch of money hungry cnuts. Fill the car-park, slow down access to the store, fill trolleys with shopping and abandon them by the tills, make the store itself a pain in the arse to run and maybe they'll think again. Pretty certain that the Whitehorse road could become so congested at certain times that deliveries and general access will become a negative aspect of using the site. While they are happy to string CPFC along, I don't think that they will appreciate local disruption from punters, get the press[sic] involved, Grannies and kids wearing Red & Blue standing up for the club they love will bring attention that they will only weather for a short while. [/Rant]

The idea that, just before 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, all the front doors around the stadium open simultaneously and off go all the supporters to the match, all with scarves and rattles, hasn't been a reality since the 1930s.

[/Rant] Am sure Sainsburys could make life just as difficult for the club and supporters if they wanted to. In the real world The Club sold part of the carpark to Sainsburys many years ago will have to pay the price to get it back. CPFC2010 got the ground for peanuts so paying over the top for a small strip of land would still see them way out in front. Making things public wont help negotiations im sure.

You're right, the target audience and future fanbase should be, but I'd suggest most people coming to games aren't from an SE25 postcode. They may well have been locals originally but I think most people there each Saturday are probably more 'expats' and their children who now live in Surrey, Sussex or other parts of South London. SP has been quoted several times in recent past that he sees the huge potential in SE25 & the surrounding areas, being predominantly residential, for growing the fanbase which is why I said that. It would be great if the Club could become a focal point fro the wider South London community after all, there's no-one else worth bothering with this side of the river
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I don't think Sainsbury's have a good track record with football teams & Stadiums. Maybe things would be different if Palace were a top six premiership team and the advertising exposure potential was different - I think Sainsbury's spend about £60M on advertising a year - SP would know this. (a deal for a Sainsbury's stand anyone?) As we flirt with relegation and the expected drop in attendance figures if the unthinkable happens then the new stand loses it's attraction as attendance figures and TV coverage would be much, much lower.

Actually, thinking about it, that Sainsbury's is old and tired looking. New stadium with a new Sainsbury's? Work together on this project and why not? yup. Near the site of the old Crystal Palace, A big new stadium with a massive Tesco's. The colour scheme of the Tesco logo is red and blue. Crystal palace station has 6 platforms and is now connected to the overground. Plus the plans to connect with the tramlink could be revitalised. If Sainsbury wish to behave like Blackpool, lets relegate them.
