This assumes that the IDF would never fire on UN safe-havens which is untrue. A United Nations inquiry into attacks on UN personnel or facilities during the Gaza War concluded that Israel had fired on U.N. personnel or facilities on eight separate incidents. There will be mistakes, there will be running battles, there will be abuse of 'safe havens' by Hamas. But UN compounds are the safest place to be in Gaza. Has there been an attack on one so far this time? Also, I'm starting to believe that the kind of 'UN' people on the ground in Gaza may have.....lets say...chosen sides. If they are anything like the lefties on here....... Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Jul 2014 11.35am)

Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Jul 2014 11.35am) The UN report did not conclude that the IDF fired by mistake on UN personnel, it concluded that it deliberately targeted UN personnel and facilities on eight occasions. They also found that the Israeli claims of Hamas abuse of safe-havens was not corroborated by the evidence. The UN compounds do not have the capacity to hold the numbers of refugees that are now homeless due to the IDF targeting residential areas.

Going to a UN compound or staying nearest to it is the safest option. As for what the UN concludes.....I'm not so sure that they are as balanced anymore. I suspect they are as balanced as you lot. Are they concluding that their staff are aiding Hamas? Allowing their premises to be used for storage. Dealing with Gaza Police known to report to Hamas.....Very shady and not what they are there for.

Ive seen various videos of Palestinians being shot by Israeli snipers when all they are trying to do is search the rubble of their houses to find loved ones. This is unforgivable. How can you try and take the moral high ground when they are doing things like this????

The problem is you and others are observers and have lost balance and the wider picture because your bias is with Hamas. As I have said, I'm not a supporter of this action. However, I find the tone and language of the usual suspects on this thread causes me to stand up for something approaching balance. When people are myopic it is valid to remind them that the world doesn't see everything through their eyes. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Jul 2014 12.14pm)

While i value your comments as 'the view from the other side', it is beneath you to try and claim to be objective.

I guess this makes you a Hamas apologist. This whole thread makes you an apologist for IDF/Israeli war crimes and civilian murder. You're doing your best to argue your point but your position is becoming more and more untenable as each day and war crime goes by. It's interesting you have been left to argue the pro-Israel position alone on the thread. None of the other usual suspects have come to back you up. I wonder why that is?

Mmmm...Compared to you on here so far I'd say I'm quite objective. Still, it's true that I do have a heavy bias towards Israel when it comes to Hamas. That's because I know what Hamas is, its constitution and who its backers are.....I'm western and believe in democracy....Yes to that extent I'm bias. Israel can vote out this government, whereas Hamas can't be reasoned with due to what they actually are. There can never be peace while they exist politically...Israel are right about this. Outside of that I do regard myself as objective on the matter. I don't support this action nor this Israeli government. I don't support west bank settlements nor the lack of support for moderates. I do support Israel's right to exist because I don't support the alternative. I recognise the injustice in 47. I recognise the huge problem this causes. I support a two state solution but I recognise the lack of incentive, in real terms, for Israel to set this up......It is a huge risk for them with debatable upside.....The UN would have to be involved heavily....Not the bias lot that currently reside down there.

I'm currently off being a teacher. I'm not an apologist for war crimes. The fact that civilians die on the front line is just a reality of war. Lets make it clear....Unlike you sanctioning the firing of rockets into Israel...If I remember correctly. I would support the prosecution of IDF where they deliberately kill non Hamas, where it is proven.
