There are obviously religiously motivated terror threats, which our security services are actively monitoring and intercepting. There are criminal grooming gangs which are slowly being brought to justice by painstaking police investigation. There are protests that, occasionally, can get out of hand. How the police manage anything like that so the peace is safely and quickly restored is an operational matter for them. There is a significant issue with illegal immigration, for which there is no silver bullet answer. Are any getting amnesties? News to me. On what basis? Some will be granted asylum, which isn’t an amnesty. You, and Y-L, preface the description of these problems with “Islamist” and thereby hangs Y-L’s problem. Criminal activity, if there is any, is done by people, either as individuals or in groups. It’s not done by a religion. As an atheist I have little time for any religious belief and condemn anyone who hides criminal activity behind it. That said we must never condemn a religion just because some criminals claim to adhere to it. Y-L is on a mission which puts Islam in the centre of his view of everything that’s wrong. He has been on that mission for years, which has turned into a nice little earner for him. We have the law and the justice system to deal with criminals. It’s imperfect and often slow but it’s our way. We don’t need rabble rousers winding up vigilantes . It’s an amnesty so don’t try to rename it. Alongside you burn a bible and burn a qoran and you will get punished for the latter but not the former. Your religion bit is BS and you know it. Just look at the airport fight and response from the Islamics in rochdale. You really do need to open your eyes as ATM you are blind.

That ignore button can't come soon enough for most of us I would imagine.

But we do need people who can't vote for him railing about Trump to others who can't vote for him either. One man's opinion.

Asylum is not an amnesty. Burning either a Bible or a Quran in the UK is not illegal. Do it in private at home and nothing would, or could, happen. However, do in the middle of any kind of religious event you could be found to have committed a hate crime. So it’s not the burning that might be illegal but the intentions behind it. What happened at the airport and any response was by people. Not by a religion. Condemn them and that they might use religion as their excuse by all means but not the religion itself. It’s counterproductive.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Of course any opinion expressed here is only that of one person, but that doesn’t mean it’s alone. Why are such subjects discussed here at all? Perhaps because they impact us more than some others at home. We cannot directly influence the result, but we can still express opinions on the possible outcomes, and learn how best to prepare for them. I don’t limit my contributions to these pages. I read and post in a number of US based ones from both sides of the divide. Getting some pretty nasty abuse from some and thanks from others who appreciate the concern and solidarity. The level of intelligence and grip on reality that distinguishes each side is truly stark to behold. I will leave it to your imagination which category each is in.

As Hilary Clinton discovered condescension is seldom an effective method of communication.

Yup the same as illegal immigration is now irregular immigration. Not all irregular immigration will eventually turn out to be illegal, if asylum is granted. Which is probably why a change to the language used is being made. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it’s certainly a duck. Some though are mallards and some are mandarins, originally from Asia but now resident here.

The truth sometimes hurts but it needs to be to told, even if the hurt is initially to you. The impact might have to be managed for a while but you cannot maintain integrity and pretend lies are truths. Some of the things Trump says, and those who support him, are deplorable.

And if insulting the intelligence of those who actually live in the country you're pontificating upon is the way to convince them of your omniscience then carry on.
