I don't think he's going nowhere so I think just back him for the time being. I want a change now but it's not gonna happen anytime soon and I don't want us to go down

I know you’re being whimsical, but interestingly enough I’ve just heard Pulis talking on the radio about his time at Palace.
Apparently he had a 43% win rate (which is pretty remarkable) and won Manager of the Year for his time with us.
He spoke so much common sense.
He said if you haven’t got forwards who can score goals, you have to work on keeping clean sheets. He said there were stats that they would average you about 2 points a game .
He said he disliked the trend of passing the ball around between the defenders.
I do feel that Hodgson has been caught between 2 stools this season and we’ve ended up neither defending nor attacking properly.
We’re not efficient in either box.
We have scored 27 goals this season, but conceded 43 leading to a GD of 16.

Can you remember which radio station it was on and if it's available online to listen to?

5 ex Palace managers have now said they do not like the playing at the back two of them walked after not even full season.

Win ratio is bit misleading others use points per game ratio as well.

Pulis was in charge for only 28 games.

I always rated Pulis it was a shame the clubs ambition didn't match his which is why he walked but what has he done over the past 10 years?

I believe he has only managed in Championship being fired multi times not promoted or reaching playoffs.

I can understand people getting misty eyed over Pulis and what he achieved that season. Can't take that away from him.

However, he had no problem leaving the club managerless on the eve of the next season. And he lost the court case against Palace as he was proven to be in breach of contract.

I was at a Q and A session after a lunch at Selhurst Park at the end of that season he was with Palace. He was asked if he would still be manager next season. What followed was the sort of waffle that a politician would have been proud of, and of course, no answer to the question.

I met him briefly in Philadelphia on the pre season trip shortly before he walked out. I was struck by how personally charming he was, but it was also noticeable that the players looked miserable to a man - something didn't feel right.

Looks like he peaked with Palace as it turned out.

Peter Crouch used to talk about him a lot and his training methods in his podcast and he had him on once. Seems he was very old school and didn't work with the forward players at all. Crouch said nine players would work on the defensive shape while he and the other striker just played amongst themselves. It doesn't sound that dissimilar to what Townsend said about Roy.

Tony Pulis is the best manager we have had since Coppell. was going great until Parish's pie crust promises

I would like to see someone go back to the Wimbledon, Bassett style tactics to see how it would do now, i think it would work just as well, the two undeniable rules of football are:

1, it the ball is in the opponents half they will not score
2, the more times you get the ball in the opponents box, the more times you will score.

Agreed.

There's room for different tactics in the game.
Personally I prefer crosses and goalmouth excitement rather than knocking the ball about between the goalkeeper and defenders retaining the ball for no purpose.
Accurate crosses into box with strikers attacking both near and far posts with atacking midfielders on the edge of the area to pick up any knockdowns.
Football is cyclical and if Pep started trying it, many would follow.

Apparently the first question Pulis asked when he met the squad was, 'Anyone here have a long throw?'
Concise and pragmatic.

The way we play this season we rarely get more than a couple of players into the opposition penalty area apart from set pieces.
If you're going to play in a compact style and largely forget about the final third you really need an energetic midfielder like Gallagher who will make lung busting runs into the opposition penalty area.
Our lone striker is often isolated with no teammate within 30 yards of him.

I'm lost for words.
Long ball only works if 1. You have a couple of big lumps up front to win it. And 2. You have to be aggressive and forceful to make it work. Not only do we have no players in the modern day that would know how to play that way, even if we did there would be a red card in every game. Even if we were 'firm but fair' the diving from the other team would be ridiculous and the ref would 100% side with the 'footballing' team.
There is a time for everything. Wimbledon football belongs back in the 80s

He did mention small bit about leaving and explained about relationships with owners.

The other thing people forget he didn't want the Palace job Sir Alex was the one which talked him into taking the challenge.

Players may have been told by him he was leaving which is why they was not happy (He comes across as person who would directly tell them)

I too have met him twice once was very brief the other around 5min chat which was mostly about Rugby it was at Wales/England game & if he would take Wales football job this was before Giggs was in charge.

I agree 100%. I said this last year. Nobody plays like that anymore. Our 91 team could clean up. (If we could keep enough of them on the pitch without being sent off… I’m looking at you Nija and Andy Thorne)

Seriously though, the big boys have struggled when a team has by past the ticky tacky s*** and gone direct. Get the bloody ball in the box and we might just score occasionally
