Poor immigration is a problem made and continued by the politicians of all parties of the UK, i am an immigrant. What's the Spanish view of immigration , do they need cheap labour, is there an issue with culturally disparate immigrants? Hear and read a lot about France, Germany, Sweden in particular but not so much about Spain

Arriving in ports like Southampton, Portsmouth, Weymouth etc etc. Not just about small boats.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Odd isn't it. Every job I wanted a job they required a CV. If I was not qualified I would not even get an interview. What are the qualifications for an MP, what experience is required etc. This is the Labour candidate CV's. The mailshot I get this morning had even less information. Qualifications
"I’ve campaigned for disabled people, and built a career getting things done in education and for a tech start-up" Me: You were an headmaster? know how to manage people and budgets, or were you a teaching assistant? Anyone can have a tech start up the clue is in the name. Was it successful? You say you were a Campaigner, examples please or were you just a bod who turned up on the marches. Why should I vote for someone like this. He maybe a great bloke he may even be a great MP if elected but he aint great at applying for the job. By the way this mailshot just popped through the door it could have been Tory or Lib Dem. His leaflet says nothing so I went to his website which says even less. Monster Raving Loony Party is looking better and better.
For the first time in 80 years due to boundary changes the Tory constituency is up for grabs so I am now seeing how the other parties campaign as they all fancy their chances. Still no wiser about any of the local candidates. Edited by Badger11 (10 Jun 2024 9.08pm)

There is a current problem with immigration, but legal migration. Mainly the post-brexit importation from India in particular. The 2023 total of 730,00 is clearly too much, it is typical of the brexiteer fantasy of increased control while having no control at all. We do need immigration, it is the driver of growth of which we have seen very little since 2010, and to support our public services and the expensive to maintain generation that enabled the tories, the age group 70+. The numbers of illegal migrants are not enough to make much difference to the figures. The expensive to maintain generation!!!! Seriously!!! So they pay tax all their lives performing useful roles and then we should bump them off once they reach retirement age. If anything your suggestion should be aimed at those that didn't contribute. Maybe they should face the Logans Run style execution. That will be you one day. I hope you pop over to Switzerland once you get to that age. The difference between immigration now and pre-Brexit is that visa's are needed and a minimum salary required. The idea that immigration is needed to drive growth is a false one. Markets are needed. Therefore increase the living standards of those in the 3rd world and bingo. Massive new markets.

'Reform UK candidate apologises for saying Britain should not have fought Hitler'. He also thought Winston Churchill was 'abysmal', and praised Vladimir Putin, he thinks women are 'spongers' and should be denied healthcare. I hate to think what his opinion of the D-Day celebrations is.

I read this morning that Reform defended his statements saying they opened up a debate on basic truths. I am sure there is at least one regular poster here who agrees with him. Some of the ideas he has could have come straight from these pages.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The snap election means vetting hundreds of candidates will result in a few in all parties slipping through the first filters. The Greens recent prospective Labour in Rotherham etc etc. Better look at Reform's imaginative economic proposal on BoE QE reserves.

I don't agree with him however his view actually aligned with many in the government and society in general at the time. Lord Halifax was very close to becoming PM after Chamberlain and that is exactly what he would have done. History they say is written by the victors so we have airbrushed from ours that the country especially the elite was split. Many did not want war and wanted to do a deal with Hitler. I suspect the tide turned in favour of total victory after Dunkirk, foolish comments.
