With respect, Jones fought far better fighters than Steve Collins and the thought that Jones avoided him is laughable mate.

When you have older successful fighters at the end of their careers with Calzaghe and Collins being examples you often find that they want to avoid the hungry up and coming prospects. What they want are the big pay days and that means big established names......as they are fighters also at the back end of their careers these are often easier and well paid fights compared to the up and coming killers who come with a lot of ambition but little money. So I can understand why Collins avoided Calzaghe and Calzaghe in turn avoided Froch. For fans, it's all about the best and exciting fights.....but for most fighters it's about the most money for the least risk.

It's fun to speculate the "what ifs" in boxing. How would RJ cope with Marvin Hagler at his peak? Back to Joe C: I initially thought Joe C lacked the killer punch to be a great. It was when he fought a highly thought of and hard hitting Jeff Lacy that I changed my mind. It was a masterclass. Joe simply didn't need a haymaker. His punching was so accurate Lacy was beaten after 3 rounds.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

His punching was so accurate Lacy was beaten after 3 rounds. If boxers want to be proper ‘box office’ I think they need to have knock out power. Mayweather is an artist with the way that he fights, but happily never watch another of his defensive performances again, give me a GGG or Lomachenko any day. It’s like a golfer that hits it 100 yards straight everytime, you score well, but would love to be able to drive it 300 yards.

Having seen what Calzaghe did to Jones when they did fight, I have my money on Calzaghe.

Jimmy Cable died last weekend. Bit of a legend round my way, unfortunately the booze got hold of him. I hear that most of Orpington used to travel when he was fighting. He was British Champion and held a form of the European title, a good pro but almost untouchable in the unlicensed game once he’d retired. Used to see him knocking about, often in a Palace coat , I looked him up born in Penge apparently. RIP Edited by Casual (17 Aug 2020 5.43pm)
