Roy, the most game-time you should ever give Benteke is ten or fifteen minutes at the end of a nothing game, a game where the outcome is already beyond all reasonable doubt.

You can definitely still be a palace fan and be frustrated by an expensive international striker who week on week is missing decent chances and struggling to score goals. It’s not personal. He’s just not playing very well at the moment. Maybe some bench time will fire him up again.

Apologies misread your post.

Can't understand how some defend him at the moment he's useless and his attitude poor and for a big unit pushed off the ball far too easily Doesn't matter how many crosses come in would just mean he'd miss more Stick him on the bench might give him chance to think on why he's not trying or is he saving his energies for the world cup

He's crying out for a spell on bench no matter what everyone says the way he's playing they will be no goals from him as for going to world cup your joking aren't you i think roy or Southgate would say the same

Sick and tired of this particular defence on behalf of Benteke. Ultimately he's paid to put the ball in the back of the net, and it's not like he hasn't had the chances come his way - numerous one on ones with the keeper, off target headers etc. What did it for many I suspect was when he took the ball off Luca for that penalty, total disrespect and imo he should have been dropped straight after.

In any normal club that would have been the end of him. Playing alongside Soerloth yesterday threw into perspective just how s*** he has become. Soerloth did all those things but battled for the ball, got his headers on target and forced saves, tracked back to defend, held the ball up and did all the things that Benteke does "well". He was unlucky not to score; Benteke missed two sitters.

It's frustrating because we've seen him do well for us before, but now he looks like another Sonogo, Akinbyi or Bumfluff. Now he's likely to lose his place the minute Wilf gets back to someone who's never played at this level before and if that doesn't focus his mind nothing will.

And if he does play well for the rest of the season there's always the chance that he'll go back to being useless at some point and that's a good reason for showing him the door in the summer anyway.

Benteke is paid to score and win headers, link play and lead the line. At this moment his all round game is pretty good, but he can't keep missing great chances and I will not argue with anyone who wants to coat him for that. The others are paid for various aspects of play too, one of which is pitching in with some goals. How many are doing that? How many defenders have scored this year? Cabaye has no goals, Macca gas 2 league goals I think. Andros 1, Wilf 4 and he's missed some doozies too. No one apparently can take a direct free kick and the shooting technique of the entire squad on a match day is pathetic. Would we have scored Sigurdsson's chance, would we f***. It would have gone 20 yards over or choked wide. From 2 or 3 yards not one player can improvise a finish to somehow poke it over the line and we have had untold goalmouth scrambles this season.
Yes Benteke should be leading the way, but a little help wouldn't have gone amiss.

The Match of the Day predicted goals stats for yesterday were interesting, with us on 1.69 or so and above Everton. Our defensive errors and the usual not taking chances by pretty much the whole team keep impacting. Andros in particular would have been expected to contribute more goals. Agreed, Benteke's wretched time is the biggest single problem, but a 3 week break before we play again can only help judging from how the side & injuries look.

Very good post .
He does quite a bit that others do not want to recognise and if he does start to score again it will be the key to our survival , that is why I will back him , it's pointless slagging off someone who can help us survive.
If we go down then slag him if you wish , and if we stay up and the club decides to sell him then fine if we use the money to find someone else.

i agree pal just watching on TV hurt really bad god forbid if i actually paid good money to watch live on the day where in need of solid points and wins and with all the effort we're putting in at the moment it's just not going our way we need wilf back a.s.a.p.the lad sorloft put in a good first shift i think him upfront with wilf could be a solid front 2 if we put him in straight away and Benteke on bench when we first signed him could have worked out if it had happened that way who no's we could have been safe right now and not having a big battle on us hands every match from now till the end..sorry for the way i post it's the only way i no.

Exactly, his confidence is shot, have him coming off the bench. He was great last year but his confidence is rock bottom, class is permanent. However he’s very frustrating as he doesn’t run around trying to make up for his loss in form.

Can someone explain that fingers / ears goal celebration? (Not that it's seen that often)
