Buy Litecoin.

Most likely, but the point I was getting at is that with any investment it's generally not wise to get overly scared by short term changes. By which I mean, what happens or happened in July is largely irrelevant.

Absolutely.
Buy, hold and ignore the random noise.

Crypto is certainly here to stay.

Do you have any tips on where to buy? since there are of course occasional horror stories in that department from those not in the know. Preferred or trusted platforms. Where you bought your litecoin and so no..

Sounds like the right formula to me. A relation of mine did that with shares over the decades throughout the highs and lows and it certainly reaped rewards in the end. There's even more of a rationale for doing that with crypto currencies too really.

What's the view of Ethereum around these parts? It looks to have had a sluggish start to the year but could it be one to watch?

'Coinbase' in the main and some on 'Binance'.
Both a ball-ache tbh but that's where this space is atm.

Bitcoin appeals to all so probably the better/safer choice.

That aside, looking forward to a nice end to 2019

Cheers TUX. I was reading about the security features of Ethereum, but then heard of a disaster where millions were stolen. I suppose this has happened with all cryptocurrencies though.

As you say though BitCoin appears to be and always has been the gold standard. Out of curiosity where did you buy yours? Do you store them locally rather than trust an online service?

Exchanges get hacked. Cryptos themselves don't (as far as i'm aware).
Buy them and store them in your own personal wallet, a Trezor/Ledger Nano S (or similar).
Never ever leave your purchase on an exchange. This is similar to doing your weekly shop, paying at the till and leaving the laden trolley there.

Take whatever you've purchased 'home'.

It was rather interesting in that it appeared to involve hacking easy or guessable private keys, or by bruteforcing addresses secured by pass-phrases:

I would think it's not a serious concern for those who know what you're doing though. And I suppose when anything like this happens, many take steps to ensure that they're not victim to the same kind of thing.
