Explain why he voted in favour of gay marriage in 2013 then? This should be good

btw you celebrate Xmas. Doesn't mean you are a rabid Christian, does it?

Try harder.

No trying required, this stuff is hardly taxing.

Maybe he supports gay marriage, he doesn't have to agree with everything.

Or maybe he did it because then he had no position of power and so took a position to further himself in the party....if...as a Labour politician he had voted against it would have damaged him and excluded him from challenging as Mayor.

On that vote for gay marriage he said:
'My family do not need to suffer for what I have to do for my job.'

So....he did it for his job because it advantaged him later on....or perhaps not.

You said he had no faith...He has, and he's raised both his daughters to be Muslims.

The decision on the underground aligns with the Muslim faith's position. It affects lots of people.

Yet you attack Mogg for his single vote.

Blimey. It's not conforming it's representing. That is his role. This is CSE level me having to tell you that.

OK, don't answer the question then. You should be an MP, not sure which of your constituents or which of their views you would represent though - but then clearly, you don't either.

Ok, if you can find me anything which says that Khan gets his carpet out and prays toward Mecca, in order to balance out my observations of Mogg's deference to The Vatican; and something where Khan has said Islam will affect how he votes a la Jacob, with his self-confessed Catholic beliefs affecting how he does then I will hold my hand up and say also 'Khan should be nowhere near a top political post'

Otherwise, your comparisons are invalidated.

Thing is Hedgie if you don't know by now when & whom an MP is supposed to represent in his/her constituency you never will.

It must be difficult on issues like Brexit where constituents views will no doubt cover the entire spectrum - from extreme in to extreme out, and all points in between.

I don't want to embarrass you because it is so so basic that even a 12 year old with a half decent teacher at school would know. It would appear patronising even if you genuinely don't know.

Khan is a practicing Muslim, it's on his wikipedia page. [Link]

You have made several easily refutable comments on this thread. The claim that a politician must blindly follow what their seat voted for...so in essence their party.

Then you made the obviously false comment that Mogg is a fundamentalist because he's a catholic even when he has expressly said he is a democrat who does not believe in forcing others to accept his view.

And when I point out that Khan (an acknowledged Muslim that you didn't recognise) who actually has power and has enacted a policy straight out of the Qu'ran (women must dress modestly) you suddenly start talking about body shaming. I kid you not, I laughed.

I agree that Khan is a secularist just as Mogg is.

I'm also sensible enough to understand that they are both informed by their religion....to think otherwise is to deny reality.

Khan doesn't come across as particularly honest to me...he says what he needs to say at the time....calling moderate Muslims 'uncle toms' early in his career and then when he's in with Brown/Blair voting for gay marriage and taking the London ticket.

But that's no more a criticism of him than is a criticism of many a politician.

Whereas Mogg is Mogg from what I can see. He's honest about where he stands.

And your wiki page which I just made says you are a practising Christian due to eating too much at Xmas and scoffing a chocolate egg or two at Easter. Hold the front page - Atheist Jews, some, also celebrate Hannukah and Passover. Khan does Ramadan.

These are cultural aspects you have all taken on. The religious stuff for you all is in the broom cupboard. Extinct. Jacob's is franked across his forehead and alive and well and affects his decision making in some areas more than anything as he freely admits - "he takes his whip from the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church rather than the Whip’s Office". If one of his constituents genuinely and viably needed their MPs help and it clashed with his Church's beliefs then that constituent would be wasting their time.

I am not a fan of religion mixing with politics as you are probably aware now.

It's pretty clear who needs 'help' on this thread.

I know. Poor sod. You have tried but Stirling keeps coming back for more. Got to admire his tenacity.

John McDonnell trained to be a Catholic priest - is he fit to represent his constituents?
