He does have 2 players marking him a lot of the time, but the other side of it is that in a team with better players , he wouldn’t see nearly as much of the ball.
Every time one of our players gets the ball, they are always looking for Wilf, that wouldn’t be the case elsewhere.

Not so sure about that, especially if he is stood there waiting to receive the ball and go one on one with the fullback. What you have to remember with Wilf is that he is probably the best at one on one in the PL. Where he falls down is what he does with it after he has beaten the player. If he lifts that part of his game he will add majorly to one of the top teams.

You think he’d see as much of the ball, when it’s being played out, if the options were Jorginho, Pulisic, Abraham, Mount , Hudson odoi etc , instead of ayew and Townsend? (the rest of our 11 are defenders)

You may be right , that he could improve the latter bit of his game, but would you risk 60/70/80 million on a player, that will be 28 this year , massively improving ?

He does not look the same player this season and he himself admitted that at least at the beginning of the season his head was not in the game. He has shown signs of late of getting back into form, but he will need a very strong finish to the season if he is to convince a big club he is worth the money. With Chelsea and Spurs both already signing wingers it is looking like he may have to go abroad for CL football. At his best he is almost unstoppable, but we have rarely seen that this season.

I still harbour unrealistic hope that we'll get a rich buyer who will invest big sums and convince Wilf he can succeed here. More likely Parish may reluctantly sanction a summer sale for around £50m, with his contract shortening and his age rising.

Personally I think he’s gone already. He’s spoken to a club over the January transfer window a fee has been formalised, personal terms are sorted and he’s playing “safe” so he doesn’t get injured and plus I think his heart is not in this club anymore.

In dog beers I’ve only had one.

I think his hearts in the club, just not the system.

I think the problem with his game recently is that he does very little with power and pace. He is great at beating a defender one on one, but it is done at a walking pace from a standing start. By the time he has beaten them the opposition defence are all in position like they would be for a corner. Also I’m not sure teams double up on him, it’s just that by the way he slowly beats a full back, there is another defender in position waiting for him.
Looking at players in similar positions forwards and wide players like Mane, Sane, Sterling, Vardy ,Salah, etc they attack defenders at such pace that if they beat them they are either through on goal or at least have a chance of finding a team mate in a good position without all the opposing defence in position and ready.
By the time Wilf has done his tricks and beaten the defender we usually have 1 in the box against 3/4 defenders, Pirlo would struggle to thread a decent ball to his team mate.

If nobody has got in Wilf's ear, I struggle to see anyone paying 40m for him based on current goals & assists. They are vital statistics and his are dire.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Given current form, age etc, I'll be surprised if, after Man take their cut, we'll get 30£m for him.

I'm in that 'Ballpark' in terms of the transfer fee.

We have all seen the headline fee of £80 Million but of course we will have to pay Man Utd 25%, and I cannot see any club paying that sort of money for his services. In the final analysis we will receive less than we received for AWB.

Yes, the ceiling is 15 million so we would have to get 65m to get more AWB, cant see that happening I would be surprised if we cleared more than 30m if he goes

Consider this possible scenario :

We only clear about £30 Mill for Zaha - headline figure of £80 Mill.
Ageing squad needs replacing and there will not be much re-sale value for the players hence no significant influx of transfer fees.
Owners still in situ who have no desire to invest for obvious reasons.
Hodgson still in situ playing football not easy on the eye as he believes the team setup is best placed to avoid relegation, assuming we are still in the PL.
Or relegation to the Championship.

Not a great deal to feel positive about if the above unfolds but of course we might be gallivanting on a different path!

He’s looked just an ordinary player this season - something I never thought that I would see.
He’s only had a couple of good games.
Still think there will be interest in him because of his form in past seasons.
I agree we’ll find it difficult to get the huge fee unless some sort of auction emerges.
For me he receives the ball with his back to goal too often.
I’d like the ball played in front of him for him to run on to and take defenders on.
I’d also like to see him moving across the front line and be more mobile in his game.
Doubt this will happen as Hodgson plays a very rigid system with little scope for players to move from their allotted roles, even when the system is not working.
