May I suggest that this thread is now closed.

Lets not let this thread get dragged down by arguments.

I used this thread yesterday to try and understand what was going on and to also share my feelings with other people going through the same thing as me.

Just my view on this thread.

Slightly surreal atmosphere in EC3 this morning. It's all much quieter than usual, but most people have the same expression on their face - it depicts a quiet resolve to get on with the job and stick two fingers up at the terrorists.

On my way in I had a chat with the lady who runs the local tobacconist - she is Muslim - and she was saying that she is scared today. Not of reprisals from idiot vigilantes, but because she has to travel on the Tube system. Her next comment was more interesting. I believe it represents an opinion more prevalent among the Muslim community than that assumed to be the case by those suspicious of all Muslims. She simply said, "we know where these people have their training camps. Why can't we just send our Army over there and wipe them out?"

Sorry Barry - I was composing my post while you put your comment up. Can I suggest that the thread stays open a little while longer so that people can post reflections and observations of the aftermath?

And Lee's right. There are other threads for discussing the more emotive and political sides to the tragedy.

Sounds fair, I just dont think this thread should be brought down to an argumentative level, as you say there are other threads on HOL for that. Lets have a bit of respect for all those that have been affected by yesterdays atrocities.

I personally don't think that it has sunk in yet. but as everyone is saying, it is going to take more than that to knock us down.

About an hours ago Radio 1 played it's most requested song of the day......Chumbawumba - Tubthumping.

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

RIP all the victims of 07/07

Cat Stevens Response To Yesterday

Yusuf Islam's Reaction
to London Attacks

7th July 2005

________________________________

I am horrified at the nightmarish acts of carnage we have just seen inflicted on London and its people in what authorities are describing as co-ordinated terror attacks. What on earth these murderers think they can gain by blowing up innocent men, women and children is impossible to imagine. No doubt the fatalities will include people of all religions and races without discrimination. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all those who have suffered loss or injury.

After such devastating barbarity the most important thing now is vigilance and clear thinking. All right minded members of society should realise this is an act of vile madness and should not respond to it in a reflex action. It is possible that the perpetrators may have links to Al-Qaida and carry foreign or Arabic sounding names, but may I remind the press and all people with a voice, that such a discovery would not make all the rest of British Muslim citizens and workers, who are unanimously opposed to such extreme ideologists, brandable or guilty.

The present state of the world would move that much closer to bedlam if everybody loses balance at times like these. No. But it must be the job of the police and authorities to identify clearly the guilty parties associated with these attacks and deal with them as swiftly as possible. We all want to know who they are.

Hang on, do you work for MI5? How do you know British people didn't commit todays attrocities?

That's right, it could have been the Doncaster Whippet Fanciers Society! I've heard the bombers were wearing flat caps! HAHAHAHAHA! Priceless!

These f***ers may well have been living in Manchester or Bradford or Luton or any other f***ing Muslim takeover swamp thanks to gutless liberal vermin like yourself, but these scum are as British as Bin Laden!

What you've got to remember Pete is that the people who carried out this atrocity could well have been British. Look at Richard Reid (the shoe bomber) - Britsh mother, Jamaican father, born and brought up in Bromley & South-East London. Just because someone is an fanatical extremist Muslim (as seems to be the most likely culprits) doesn't mean they aren't British.

That's just the ramblings of a madman

I am not too sure about my facts on this but IF the terrorists, or heir co-conspirators are British subjects then why do we not try them treason 'an Act against the State'. I believe that the death sentence is still applicable for this offence.

If they are not British subjects then I suggest we treat them much in the same way the Nazi's were treated after the 2nd World War and many of them were put to death for atrocities, including the murder of inncent civilians.

This was posted on another Board i frequent. Not too sure what to think of it.

Those that see them as the enemy, may like to note that if they go on the UBA march they could well be marching with them.

FROM UBA

Hello there,

I am from the UBA (United British Alliance), a non-racist organisation. We are planning a demonstration in London on July 23rd, where we will march UNITED as patriotic British people.
We have already scored victories against Muslim terrorists, in particular, Omar Bakri who preaches hate against this country whilst claiming benefits of approximately £2000 a week from the government.
We are sick of fascists who claim to have the best interests of the country because they do not accept that there are British Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, and British people from other ethnic origins.
We are also sick of the PC world and nanny state that we have to live in, and are sick to the pits of our stomachs that human rights would be infringed in order to protect innocent people like those who died today.
We have a forum where issues are discussed between many people. We have details of the march coming up online soon, and we want to help co-ordinate a mass protest to persuade the government to take stronger action on immigration, human rights policy, and against those who want to harm our country whilst fleecing taxpayers or hard earned money. We do believe in freedom of speech though, we do believe in democracy, but most of all, we believe in Great Britain.

We have been successful last year in stopping Muslim rallies held by Omar Bakri, we were given permission to lay a wreath at the 9/11 memorial on behalf of British people which was conducted impeccably and solemnly, and we marched alongside British Sikhs amongst many others who oppose the threat of terrorism.

We are patriots not racists. We care for all those who are British and have Britain's interests at heart.

I thank you for your time and hope that you can take a look at our website and join us in our demonstration. We must put pressure on the government to rid our shores of terror.

Thoughts?

Totaly agree with everything it says, and may go, depending on the details. Which board was it from?
