I can't recall any English batsman who could play a situation of 54-5 like Joe Root.

He makes it seem like a normal event.

Approaching parity but not impressed by our top order.

The top order has too many pinch hitters.

Best spell of the series from Wood. Well worth seeing in the highlights if you missed it. Up to 93 and swinging both ways. The epitome of unplayable.

Doesn't repay the stuffings we've had over the years but it's going some way to it.

I guess to dampen any euphoria, it's India and Australia we need to match. West Indies are nowhere near good enough - but in fairness to them, they are improving. A work in progress.

Sure there are tougher challenges to come but as they say, you can only beat what's in front of you and England beat them very well in all three Tests.

Ben Stokes scored England's fastest 50 (24 balls).

Yes it’s a shame the Aussies are never as bad as the windies

The last series between the Aussies and the Windies ended 1-1.
Shamar Joseph bowled particularly well in the second innings to win the game for the Windies.
Having lived in Australia for the last 20 years it was the closest match i remember seeing and secretly i think there were a lot of neutrals and some Aussies who were pleased to see such a close match such has been their dominance against everyone ( bar India ) that the result is almost a foregone conclusion before a ball is bowled.

Last year Ashes was two each and a draw wasn't it? Australia didn't win from 2-0 up. Teams are giving the West Indies games currently to give them some funding. They're straight onto South Africa. South Africa and excellent one day side but not so sure about tests. Still probably better than West Indies.

Those of us of a certain age will lament the passing of those great West Indies sides of the 70s and 80s with a seemingly endless supply of great batsmen and bowlers. I remember the look of bewilderment on the faces of some of our batsmen when facing their pace bowlers, especially Brian Close ( pre helmet days) v Michael Holding.
