Most of the time that'll be the reality, not all of the time.

You say that people shouldn't be ashamed of their ethnicity then in the very next post you seem to attack the idea that it should entitle themselves to anything say in their own country. I don't agree that the English say are priorised to housing in England....or say the Irish in Ireland.....I actually think it's against the law to do so.

But if this idea is universal then it evens out doesn't it.

Many countries around the world agree with me.

Why are you bringing ethnicity into whether someone is English or not? Those that qualify for a British passport by virtue of having been born in or lived in England long term are just the same no matter what their ethnicity.

Because English is a ethnicity, same as Spanish is an ethnicity. Seems a weird question as you recognise that.

I don't agree that a British passport makes someone British personally.....though British is a collective term and not a country. I disagreed with the naturalisation changes that made it far easier to call yourself that.

I think allegiance has a far bigger say....and that can't be shown on a piece of paper.

That first paragraph is such an overblown description of what is happening. People get so angry and take things to ridiculous extremes don’t they? Like getting flicked on the ear and going down like you’ve been punched.

If you live your life by the second paragraph then there’s no issue whatsoever.

I do indeed live by that mantra. My first decision on whether someone is friend or foe is normally based on whether they stand their round in the pub. Bit agricultural I know however it has weeded out some undesirable characters over the years

I do also however believe that the media are forcing the agenda of my initial paragraph. It is not made up, therefore not entirely sure why you think it is overblown. It is either happening or it isn't.

Are they removing statues, yes
Are they changing street names to avoid offence, yes
Are they being overly critical of those against taking the knee, yes

I could go on and would argue this is not overblown, it is happening.

The approach to getting people in this country to respect one another is not being dealt with in the correct way in my opinion. You will always have opposing ideologies at either end of the spectrum whose minds will never be changed and I touched on this in an earlier post when I said it is only time and a couple of generations of like minded people that ultimately changes cultures wholescale.

What is happening in our country at present is an attempt to force the majority into a certain mindset. This will ultimately fail as a policy as people quite simply do not like being told what to do.

A very loose analogy is wearing seatbelts. It took years and years and years for people to finally start wearing them and now it is second nature to put one on when you get into a car. The erosion of casual racism will happen in a similar fashion but don't expect people on the fringes to like being forced into it because it can easily turn them the other way which is possibly why far right extremism is increasing here.

Being English and Spanish is a nationality, not an ethnicity.

This is where your views get ‘dodgy’, to put it politely. You don’t have to be white to be English.

According to the DfE it is an ethnicity.

I'd say my views are far more accepted around the world than yours in this area....Your views are actually very much in the minority, not only around the world but for pretty much most of history.

Ethnicity incorporates multiple factors not just race that's true.

Personally I think you have to have some level of native genes to be called English. But it doesn't mean that's going to make you exclusively white. Going with the idea that you have to be 100 anything is just unrealistic. British is a wider term.

However, you don't agree and I accept that.

White English is yes. The reason the ‘white’ is there is because English on its own isn’t.

I don't think this is really being argued about.

I suppose we could argue about definitions of Englishness but it's kind of going off the point.

I’m just fascinated at where your thresholds could possibly be though. People have moved around the world for centuries and this of course has only increased over time because tech advancements have made it a lot easier, cheaper and quicker. Everyone’s heritage, ethnicity and background is an absolute melting pot.

I still find it funny that someone would think my best mate who has an English mum and dad from the Caribbean, born in England, that I’ve grown up with since childhood, always lived in this country, gone to watch England games with, was somehow less English than I am.

The fact that a very small percentage of the world moved around doesn't...in my view qualify for the term melting pot unless you're talking about a quite localised pot....which was always opposed and not welcomed.....like all colonialism.

For example, I've said many times that genetically the English are mainly a west northern European ethnicity with the highest influence being Scandinavian and German. My view is backed up by genetic studies on the English....probably the most studied ethnicity in the world.

Genetically he's probably less English than you. But he has English genes so how he sees himself is up to him.

However, when it comes to allegiance only he would know. He probably has some level of dual allegiance....then again, you being a globalist probably have little connection to your English ethnicity so those are questions that only you two can really answer.

I reckon you're both less English than me and I'm some half genetically Irish/Scottish thing.

How about this Dan, to make it interesting I challenge you....well ok it isn't a challenge. but how about this....how about we both get one of those 'ancestry' DNA things (I've actually brought one last Xmas just didn't use it).

Then we can see what our genetic make up is and see who is more of what.

Might be fun....in a pointless, 'something to do' kind of way.
