I have always been of the same opinion but this time I am concerned by the lack of leaks and solid rumours and hope that it isn't going to be like that time when we were desperate for a striker and didn't sign one or the following window when we needed a keeper and again didn't sign one Yep. Parish does often produce the goods to an extent, but very late after loads expect nothing. Only this time it’s more than one position we have no cover for, or the only current option at RB or striker aren’t good enough for a season long or until January. Concerned, but won’t lose it until Thursday evening. God Parish’s twitter page is going to explode if so. There was a load of grief after his one tweet for ages claiming the great acquisition of Cahill (at 33).

Man Utd are paying a 30 year old £500,000 a week and he never plays. I would worry yourself about wages, its all relative in football and defies normal logic. True but if they wanted to sign a 33 year old to show some ambition they could have got Wayne Rooney for a £100,000 a week at least this would have bolstered the attack.

Can we please sign sign some players that don’t fall expensively into our laps and/or lack any imagination.

I’m still hopeful that we will get Antonio in from West Ham. He’s not been linked with us for a few weeks now so maybe a deal is being done.

Outgoings? You do realise we are operating at a loss? Also, we have huge infrastructure investment on the near horizon and cannot behave like every other team in this division, including the newly promoted ones. What? Spurs? They are a vastly bigger entity than us and are far less likely to be impacted by the redevelopment of their ground. Rebuild our ground, develop the training facilities, get the academy up to Cat A, massively increase non-TV revenue and free us from the shackles of FFP... and maybe then you will have a point. One of the main reasons we are running at a loss is overpaying on wages. We are overpaying on wages due to signing right at the end of the window, strengthening the player’s agent’s hand in negotiations thus getting an over inflated deal through, (due to our desperation). Also players that have been brought in, haven’t worked out, but have no resale value. Surely that’s down to transfer strategy?

In a moaning thread I’m... not going to... well maybe a bit The good: Jettisoning Soreloth and his wages. Good business. Getting rid of puncheon, spironi. Good business (sadly). Under 23 playing pre-season games with first teasers. Good idea. Keeping Wilfried (I hope), great business. The moderate: The bad: We didn’t address our major needs, RB, LB, Striker. The hope: So, verdict out and depends on the next 2 days

Anyone who thinks Cahill is a bad signing needs to get a grip on reality. He is a great signing and is still better than most CB's in this division. Tomkins is going to miss the start of the season and so is possibly Sakho so Cahill could get in there straight away and be first choice. I would take a quality 33 year old any day than spending 20/30 million on some unknown player. It may be more exciting to fans to sign the fancy foreign names with the fancy instagram accounts but we have made a great signing in Cahill and I for one am delighted with it.

Whilst uninspiring, this window does seem more about squad depth than advancement which is tough with limited resources. Pre-Pardew we were similar then along he comes & we sign our first real 'marquee' signing, Cabaye. Then we get Benteke. Both were pricy (especially Tekkers) & left little for other buys. Allardyce comes in & gets PVA, Luke & Schlupp (+ Mama on loan) which, whilst good business, looks like we probably overpaid for PVA & Schlupp. Mama is a huge hit so we splash the cash again. The FdB fiasco hits & we're left with an aging, ineffective squad that needs rebuilding but we're stuck with Sako, Mutch, Chungy etc all on decent money & that nobody else wants (especially on those wages). Roy arrives. We gamble on young overseas players to fill some gaps - all of which prove to be a waste. Cash is tight so we do a deal for Guaita, then Meyer. Kouyate seems like a decent buy (for the money) & Sako was valid back-up based on his last stint with the club. Ayew, as a loan, was ok as a squad player. Since his arrival Roy has had criticism over subs yet, when analysed, it's been clear he hasn't really had a great deal to work with. "We need depth not overpaid/priced rejects from other teams" did the rounds on FB/t***ter etc which, on the face of it, is what we're getting. I don't know if it's being forced upon us due to finances or whether it's part of a plan to get the academy to A status & rolling out talent? A holding measure while the Americans sell their shares or a complete takeover is announced? Something entirely different? What I do know is that if we make big signings the club gets slated for lack of depth but if we make squad signings they get the same fro not being ambitious enough. Perhaps there is a middle ground but until our financial situation is resolved I'm not sure that's viable.

Certainly no lack of transfer activity. We have signed Cahill and McCarthy who between them made 9 appearances last season so they are well rested. Not forgetting of course Ayew who impressed the club enough after 2 goals in 25 appearances (All competitions) that they offered him a permanent contract and paid Swansea a transfer fee.
