The 'great' Roy Jones Jr was totally humiliated by Joe Calzaghe. Jones might have been past his best when they fought but the Americans were always been reluctant to recognise Calzaghe as the best of the best.
Jones did things in the ring I have never seen done by another boxer.

Still, while I think when it comes to reflexes Jones was something else it has to be said that if a non great like Tarver had the answer who is to say others wouldn't have. I suppose there isn't such a thing as an unbeatable fighter.

Until he lost to Tarver he was pretty much unstoppable, however he became shot very quickly and that is what tarnished his reputation. Who do you think he avoided Badger?

Interesting article about his career. He certainly divides opinion, he is a great I am not denying that but the quality of some of his opponents was not.

I've always wondered why the was no fight between Joe Calzaghe and Steve Collins. Would have been interesting.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

He avoided Collins that’s for sure. He was a good fighter a Super-middle but he wasn’t a great. Doesn’t mean he was wasn’t involved in great fights. Calzaghe was in the hotly contested fight with Hopkins? And that is partly why he never got the credit in the States. Yanks love a fighter and Joe’s finesse wasn’t what they wanted.

He only agreed to fight him after he had been retired for 2 years, and at light heavy. He avoided him like the plague in the mid-90’s when all he had to lose was an IBF title. I stand by my previous statements. Good fighter, great fights with other good fighters. I think it could be said many fighters avoided fights. You don’t end up with great records otherwise, Calzaghe included. RJ he played it well, was up there, but hung around too long. These latest moves are non-sense. Originally posted by Tom-the-eagle
