Can't be arsed to look for Mapletee's original wildly sweeping, ignorant and insulting post about the implications of a father bringing up a daughter. My wife of 12 years died 5 years ago, and left me with our two Girls they were 7 and 5 back then. My job means I'm away fairly regularly, so not there as much as I would've liked, but both are doing well at school, but more relevant is that neither has run away and joined Islamic State. Dick. You sound like a father doing his duty in genuinely difficult circumstances and I tip my hat to you.

It is a stupid and old fashioned idealistic piece of tired claptrap. There are plenty of kids in this country who are fostered, and encounter hostile environments, and sometimes experience abuse form those that are supposed to protect them. However they do not all run away and join IS. Your comment is fundamentally flawed and very ignorant. You have failed to read the thread and failed to read this case Clearly you feel passionately. That is no excuse for jumping to conclusions The point was made as a response to a statement that the girl’s parents will have taught her right and wrong. However the father was living permanently in a different country.

I don't have any expertise in this area, but it seems to me that we should not make this someone else's problem.

Her mother died. Her father, with whom she was not living, had to take over her upbringing. I doubt he understood Or communicated with her well OK, as a Muslim female she would have been in the close care of adult family members, unless of course you know otherwise.

I know, but they require someone to actually be watching. Of course and you they think no-one is? Why do you think passports are scanned at Border Control? It is not, contrary to popular belief, to see if you have outstanding parking fines

Glad to hear your girls are doing well, you deserve a lot of credit and I sincerely hope your futures are bright.

As you know, I too have lived and worked in multiple Muslim countries Your specific point, to which I replied, was that her parents would have taught her. I noted that doesn’t take into account her real situation. She lost her mother and her father only travels to the UK occasionally having remarried. I can find nothing about how she was cared for after her mother died.

She was raised by her mother until her father joined them in the UK in 2007. Begum's mother died, suddenly, of cancer, in January 2014. Her father remarried in September 2014, and Begum left for Syria in December 2014

It is uncanny how similar her life experiences were to those of Shamima Begum. Shamima’s father is called Ahmed Ali by the way It was originally thought Shamima went to Syria to find Sharmeena although they weren’t related. I thought Sharmeena had died though.

Maybe we should bring her back, then send her away again the very next day just to give the story renewed momentum.
