You don’t understand the difference between revenue and cash clearly. The money would be in the accounts. Just not in revenue. And it isn’t really there. We have f*** all cash, not insignificant loans form shareholders and third parties and are making losses

How much is the clubs debt?

According to Sky Sports, via the BBC site this morning, AWB would favour a move to Man U but isn’t pushing for a move which is pretty much what he said a month ago. Who knows? Unlikely as it sounds maybe he’s happy to stay for his whole career.

I agree with Hrolf it’d be a bad decision to lose him too soon for two reasons: it’s a pleasure seeing him play for Palace and selling Kenny Sansom seemed to upset the team at the time. Not to compare them but good full backs aren’t easily replaced.

Then you got angry about something that no one said mister accountant.

Of course players get sold. It's when they should be sold that is the issue.
No way should Palace be pressured into selling AWB at this stage in his career or contract unless we are offered an absurdly large amount of money.
Personally, I believe that the player is worth far more to us on the field, as is Zaha.

At what price do you sell then, and when?

And one player is not worth more on the pitch if you can get more players making the team better, and I saw that claim maybe covering
you’re loosening to sell but not now.

Will your answer be affected by the fact we can’t score at home or by a centre forward on our books or by a central midfielder and isn’t Benteke into his last season?

Full backs are much much much easier to replace than strikers or attacking central midfielders which is an obvious problem area for us.

Yes they are but there’s something in the way he plays that suits the side. Maybe I’m trying to justify not letting him go and am not facing the pragmatic reality. Wouldn’t be the first time.

We made a loss of £33,340,000 last year (2018 accounts)

We have about £17m cash in bank and £10m owed to us in debtors.

We have creditors of £134m including an advance of £29m from future premier league money

Our biggest problem is when a club buys a player the cost is amortised over the length of the players contract, so a £40m player on 4 year contract means we pay £10m a year for next 4 years on accounts.

When we sell a player the full amount is recognised in the accounts the year of the sale.

So when we sold Bolasie, Gayle, Jedi etc we brought in £45 and bought £92m of players but due to amortisation, we showed an EBITDA of £11m in 2017.

Without selling players every now and then we will not post any profits at all and will rely on being bank rolled by owners/loans.

*I will caveat this with I am not an accountant, I merely have a very basic understanding of accounts and the above could be wrong. Happy to be corrected on any of it.

Dom Fifield has written this today.

Dom's a Palace fan and normally fairly reliable.

Dominic Fifield now reposting on the proposed transfer of AWB so I now give credence to the story.
If it happens I will be sorry as right back is one position where we can claim he is genuinely one of the best in the country and it has been a delight to see his astonishing progress.
Some will argue that at least we would be selling on our terms and we are not actively seeking to sell him.
But for me it would be another case of the top clubs hoovering up talent after little less than a year with the club where they were developed.
Man Utd have also bought James and are now strongly linked with Longstaff from Newcastle.
I hoped, perhaps naively, that we could buck the trend.

Why don't people understand simple concepts?

One more time. A team like Palace cannot attract top quality because it has little to offer. Wan Bissaka is top class, which is why he is wanted by United.
We will only replace him with an inferior player as we would with Zaha.
The top players we have lured have been damaged goods. Sakho and Benteke. We paid too much for them because we had the cash at the time and Liverpool wanted to offload them but still held all the cards.
The one position we desperately need is a striker but given that we are supposedly hard up, how much do you think we will spend of our AWB windfall? If we have 70 million to spend, it wouldn't matter because no world class striker will come to Palace.

One more time. Top home grown players are worth more than money to Palace because we can't sign top players with all the money in the world.
If we were lucky we would end up with an average striker, an inferior right back and another squad center half.
But wait, according to the HOL accountants inc, we have too big a wage bill and outstanding debts, so how does that compute?
Surely we can't buy anyone.

I don't doubt United want him but whether they cough up the right amount is another matter.
I would tell those Manc B'stards to piss off.

I fully expect us to sign an inferior player. That will always be the case. Always has, always will, and AWB will want to be with superior players. (I forgot to post that he will see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity, which most Man U potential signings do, including Zaha)

How inferior do you anticipate this guy to be? Isn’t this kind of level of player we’re scouting good enough for you or you or us?

‘Palace are already exploring their options over a replacement for Wan-Bissaka, and contact has been made with the Belgian international Timothy Castagne. The Atalanta defender, capped five times, has spent the last two seasons in Serie A and made 28 top-flight appearances as they finished third and qualified for the Champions League last season.’
