Councils sending people miles away isn't new. Again in reference to my own experience with Bexley borough I was threatened with being sent to Manchester at one point

Have a listen to the last 25 minutes or so of this...

.....Indeed I don't recall (although I'm sure it did happen) people moaning to much when they sent there kids from London to Wales when the blitz was on.

Because social housing in this country is in a f***ing mess. It's a shambles. And that is down to lots of factors. Margaret Thatcher allowing the right to buy and those properties not being replaced with new social housing. Extortionate private rents in certain parts of the country as there is no rent cap in place. Successive governments after Thatcher including Blair, brown, Cameron and clegg and now may not building enough social or affordable housing. Growing population, throw in some people who do play the system (a small minority) but they do exist and we have the problem we have.

Do not attempt to start any form of argument or political point scoring on here with me. Some of what you write I agree with, some I am not so sure about but I am not some Tory sympathizer so don't start all that. If you read and digest all I have written here (I have posted at length on this topic) I actually know a Lot about social housing problems, substandard properties and landlords. I have lived it and one day myself and my family might go through that hell again. Actually had it take over my life. Not something I have read about in a blog and linked to on a football forum

I lived in a council flat the top floor of a piss stinking tower block when I was around 10 for about a year. It was horrible, people there were great though. That's why I'm so f***ing angry about the whole sorry affair.
I've also lived in a one room bedsit with my stepmum and brother, sharing a bathroom with pissyheads for a month. Not fun. (as an aside I always chuckle when people accuse me of 'middle class guilt' whatever that's meant to be) So you don't need to tell me about social housing.

If anything comes out of this preventable tragedy, it's that the places poor people live in are afforded the same tight regulations as other buildings.

And again I will say that the events of the night were political. From decisions at government level - cuts to local authorities, lax oversight of regulations, deregulation putting safety responsibilities and signing off into corporate hands rather than the fire brigade. Why is no one taking any responsibility?

The teaching profession is stuffed full of the 'cunds'

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

When it comes to social housing and housing in general this country has been well and truly screwed by every single government I can remember.

When Thatcher allowed for council houses to be sold without replacing the stock she also essentially worsened the situation for the next generation.

When Labour allowed that explosion in the population to happen in the nineties without the infrastructure and housing for it that was scandalous and worsened an already poor situation.

Where we are now is so bad that it will take a generation of real action to recover from it.....Governments have to ensure that social housing is a percentage of all new buildings.

Housing however is a big cost for little short term political capital gain......It has to be something that's done in the national interest and away from the political minefield.
