People doubting whether or not Benteke is the right choice for the money!!! In todays market and high prices he is the 'perfect' addition to the squad. No brainer ... and just hope we do what is needed to get him on board. It's our 4th season in the premiership and this is exactly the sort of player we have to buy! Simple!

So any signing is going to have to be in the £15m+ mark. And even then - I haven't seen any available at that sort of price that would suit us or be able to deliver. Benteke is a proven premier league player. Who has had one poor season at Liverpool when played in a style that does not fit him and when he was regularly used as backup. He has scored over 50 league goals in around 120 appearances in the league. So even after a poor season at Liverpool his average is still not far off 1 in 2. He is a class act. If we can afford him - and that's down to the board to determine - then it should be a deal we pursue relentlessly.

There is a drought of top level strikers available in world football at the moment and as such any that are for sale will cost money. Despite last season when he wasn't played that much, Benteke is a proven Premier League scorer at the perfect age and I am astonished that signing him is even an option. I am as uncomfortable about spending 30m on a player as anyone else given our history, however if we want to push on it is a necessity. The thought of going into a new season with Wickham and Campbell as our strikeforce terrifies me.

Looks like we may have rival for Benteke this morning. Papers are reporting that West Ham are looking to offload Enner Valencia to fund a bid for Benteke.
