Welcome to football club ownership, CPFC2010! I don't envy having to make such decisions, but the cold hard facts by which you judge a manager's performance speak for themselves in this case. I wonder what the lessons learnt from Burley's appointment are and how this will affect the selection process of the next manager? There was always this nagging doubt in my mind about Burley given his last spell in management was so underwhelming. Personally, I think we need a manager who is used to winning and importantly has been winning recently.

Who would be a football club owner ? Not only does it almost certainly mean you have to be prepared to part with millions of your own hard earned money and expect never to see it again, but trying to please fans that have different expectations. You truly can't win. Steve Parish jointly saved our club. He then - uniquely - decides to interact with the fans via this site and the BBS....and then gets critisised by some for doing so ! Incredible ! The questions re GB being given the sack were answered carefully and I thought left GB with his dignity intact. If my boss had sacked me and then had to publicly discuss it, that would be the way I would want it handled. Those that referred to GB's alleged drinking habits are deluding themselves if they thought SP would rise to that bait by even alluding to it. And if GB enjoyed a drink and Palace were top of the league would there be any reference to it at all ? For obvious reasons SP couldn't say too much about the next appointment - it is unrealistic to expect him to. And of course he is going to be selective with the questions he answered...he'd still be on here now if he's answered every one fully, and while it's all very well asking '' Juicy '' questions, there is only so much that can be revealed about what happens behind closed doors in any business. Football is of course a game of opinions and I respect other people's point of view....but I don't understand how some on here can accuse SP and Co of making a '' knee jerk '' decision. Look at our league position, away record and points tally. That's done and can't be changed. Then look at the manager and ask yourself if you think he's capable of turning things around. I saw nothing to suggest he could. And the Board - who work closely with the manager and have daily contact with him - clearly didn't either. So SP comes on here, accepts part of the blame himself as he appointed GB -and gets accused of making a snap decision. In my opinion the only thing he got wrong was the timing - I would have done it a few weeks back. Would GB have kept his job if we had won yesterday ? - probably, as that would have been a huge result for us and may have been an indication that we had turned a corner. Instead it was another limp performance, another hiding. There has to be a cut off point when you decide enough is enough. Those pro-Burley folks on here that have been saying we should back the manager / 2010 should get over their disappointment and now get behind SP and Co. in what happens next. I fully supported their decision to appoint GB, but I've struggled for a couple of months now to keep that support from waning. So, another new start. The incoming manager faces a huge task to keep us in the Championship due to our points tally and goal difference. But there is the nucleus of a half decent team already in place. It just needs organising properly so that we become more robust and harder to beat. Sorry for the length of this post....good luck tomorrow Dougie, SP I wish you all the best in identifying the right man, to all my fellow fans I wish you a Happy New Year and hope that we can be united in the support of our great club.

i'm stunned at some of the people/posts on here. it ranges from s***, stupid, repetitive questions being asked, to people complaining that their questions weren't answered (mine weren't, my toys are still in the pram) to people recommending Steve 'keep his mouth shut' and others damning it a publicity stunt! ...unbelievable. And i'm sorry, but i have to say it: Prin_cpfc, you have come across as a right spoiled, unreasonable, attention-seeking brat. I have no idea how old you are but if you're anything over 17 years old, it's very worrying. Pathetic. Stay away Monday and try to grow up.

I can only think of 1 manager that would guarantee the club success, but he will require a reasonable salary, and a reasonable players wages fund. It's Martin o'neil for me. CP2010 keep telling us fans that we are now a rich club. Well prove it and put your money where your mouth is. Funny thing is that I'm sure we will sign an inexperienced manager like Hughton, Southgate, etc who will be unable to attract players and will land up having to manage the existing squad until the end of the season. This really is a big, big disision for CP2010.

Mr. Parish came onto the boards far too quickly in my opinion and he was trying to be 'one of the boys.' Now look through every answer he gave which either (i) gave no information we really did not have already and (ii) in some cases, e.g. the squad size GB inherited, were complete rubbish. He should have waited a day, maybe two, seen the mood of the fans, perhaps issued a well prepared statement on the boards and been prepared to answer questions then. I am sure neither he nor Martin Long run their businesses in such a manner. I am afraid they have lost some respect from me through this ill conceived chat which was Mr. Parish's knee jerk reaction to his earlier knee jerk reaction. Edited by james03 (02 Jan 2011 9.48am)

I agree with the above post from eagle eyed... Some people need to grow up and stop moaning. I can't think of many owners that would take time out from a bad day to answer questions. So what if he can't answer everyones, I think he shed enough light on the sacking situation. I salute CPFC2010 for coming on here.

I have been unable to read every post as on my phone but I thought I'd add my two bob's worth. Sacking Burley for me was a mistake. He has had no real time to forge his own squad. Today was a knee jerk reaction to a very poor performance. When CPFC2010 took over they talked about stability and building for the future. In stead of progress we are now entering yet another transfer window managerless. To say we were only a couple of players short when George took over means either a) they have a short memory or b) think we are stupid. It's hard to explain but I feel like the bond of trust between me as a fan and the club has been broken. Sacking someone based on one game with no back up plan smacks of someone managing as a fan not a businessman. The vitriol from fans on various message boards towards Burley and the actions of the board have made it a very sad day for me and not one to be proud of. Lastly we play Preston tomorrow a team in turmoil. Instead of using that to our advantage we throw ourselves into turmoil too. Bizarre at best.

Part of me feels this way also. However, all I can say is up until now I have been very impressed with CPFC2010's decisions and I trust that they are as upset and disappointed that GB didn't work out as we are. I am sure they willed it to work more than us pro-Burley posters - after all they made the decision to hire him. So they haven't given me sufficient reason to believe that they now all of a sudden cannot be trusted. There may be certain ins and outs of transfer policy that GB had which disappointed the board. This information may be something we will never know about - and if the consortium are men of integrity (which I think they seem to be) then they are better people than to make this public on a forum. I also didn't agree with the notion that GB had a decent sized squad to start with - but perhaps he had a more free hand to build it up again than we think he had- and perhaps he did get it worng...that is not something any of us will know with any certainty. To sum up - I am disappointed - I wanted GB to have more time. However, I have stated that I will support the decision of the board and I stick by that. We must be careful not to turn these Q & A's into such vitriol amongst ourselves, or they will surely begin to dry up. Thanks for keeping us posted CPFC2010 - here's hoping you made a good decision and that this is the last manager we'll have to relieve of his duties for a long time!

Right. Sorry if this goes against the grain, but I'm really disappointed with the Q&A session tonight. I think Mr Parish was VERY selective as to which questions he answered, and I firmly believe that the session was more of a publicity stunt than a genuine attempt to keep the fans up to date and provide transparency. Syd posed some superb questions - ignored. Still there is no answer as to why it is acceptable for a board of directors to make such big decisions on one poor performance - and before anyone jumps in and talks about the season as a whole, Mr Parish himself said that the sacking would not necessarily have happened had the result/performance today have been different. My other huge concern is that, despite having it put to him time and again that Burley was working with a decimated squad - he pretty much laughed this off and made out that it was Burley's squad. I'm sorry, but Burley was appointed at a time when he had to strengthen immediately - and did the best he could do to repair a lot of damage in a short space of time. A few months is simply not enough time to build and shape a squad - especially with the transfer window system that is in place today. I also think we've had awful luck with injuries - another point that has been conveniently ignored. All in all, today has brought me back down to earth with a massive bang. CPFC2010 may well turn out to be better for our club than previous owners (not hard) but they are far from perfect and far from the honest, transparent bunch that they would have us believe. I am also no longer convinced that they are the shrewd and patient owners I thought them to be. A hugely disappointing day - only made worse by this sham of a Q and A session. Defeat, premature sacking and then this bollocks. It's not prime minister's question time though is it Victor Meldrew!? he can't answer everything because some of it is too sensitive and not professional to be pinned on a discussion board Edited by Frickin Saweet (02 Jan 2011 11.08am)
If you read back - it is accepted that some questions are too sensitive etc - particularly those about prospective new managers. However, I still think that the questions were answered selectively and am unhappy with some of the other answers given. It is great that we have owners who are prepared to talk to us - but that does not automatically make them right. I'll certainly not follow them blindly or without challenge.
