Yeah, except that he probably didn't actually write the plays. It was most likely Edward de Vere. Not really something to wave a flag about. The Irish don't need a reason to get dressed up and drink too much.

I agree with this article about Sudan. Government advice has not changed in decades, don't go, and yet 4000 people are there and complaining that we are not doing enough.

I assume you are an anti-Stratfordian because our Bill wasn’t posh enough to be so successful.

The classic conspiracy theory is that the plays were written by Francis Bacon but actors balked at working for the Royal Bacon Company.

Progressives make such a big deal of this. St George is a patron saint of several countries....not just England. Somehow I doubt people are making this same point there. The progressives always seem to delight in fact checking the St George story....in their never ending desire to denigrate nationalism.....of course they often produce a one eyed version themselves rather than an objective historical one. They don't really care that the St George myth is largely no different to the King Arthur legends and no one was ever going around claiming that St George was slaying dragons in early Kent. They can't just let people enjoy their national day the way they want to. Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Apr 2023 9.10am)

Most of the it wasn't Shakespeare theories are just snobbery, how could a small town grammar schoolboy write plays about countries he never visited / the classics and histories. No it had to be a toff. Actually we don't know that Shakespeare didn't go to Italy for instance there's no proof either way. As for where did he get his data from the answer is quite simple. For the histories he mainly used Holinshed's Chronicles which was a famous history book at the time. As for may of his foreign plays many of them are based on older well known classic stories. Maybe he was just a bright boy who read the classics. Edited by Badger11 (27 Apr 2023 9.14am)

Edited by Badger11 (27 Apr 2023 9.14am) A chap I listen to was a well known (in those circles) Shakespearean scholar who wrote several books on the guy and tends to this view. When you read Shakespeare's will it seems quite in line with the accepted narrative. Never been into Shakespeare myself and don't really have a view. However, whenever you read his stuff within the context of the time, the incredible talent is obvious. Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Apr 2023 9.22am)
