That's a very commendable brexit attitude

I had to pay interest at 15%+ when I had a mortgage - that wasn't a "breeze".... there was fcuk all left most months to spend on essentials, so I don't agree that spending money isn't hard.

As I said most 2nd homeowners I know have worked hard to raise capital, then worked hard physically to create a habitable dwelling for others to rent, and should be applauded.

Yes, and savers who've earn't diddly for many years (unfortunately) have put their money into property. Couple this with a banking system demanding ridiculous deposits from first-time buyers and we have a new market, 'buy-to-let'.
I have no problem with this at all, but i do have a problem with those renting these properties paying (in full in many many instances) the mortgages of those who own the property.
I also remember ridiculously high interest rates as i bought my first house in the 80's. And yes, i also worked hard to stay afloat, we all did. But that was then and this is now. They're completely different scenarios.
I'm just glad that i'm not faced with what many face today. Working just as hard to pay (someone else's) mortgage while ALSO having to save for their own.

That's not just ''hard'', it's nigh on impossible.

The "impossible" aim of encouraging more young people to buy houses will never be achieved without Brexit.

Without Brexit, millions of immigrants will continue to pour into the UK creating a housing shortage and further sustained rise in house prices.

I bet you voted Remain too, but if you were serious about wanting to encourage more home ownership you would be anti-immigration surely?

That is the reality TUX.

Not to mention wage suppression.

Have you not realised that stagnation of wages is directly related to immigration.

There are a myriad of reasons according to The Economist.

As we are nearly all the kids or grandkids or great grandkids of immigrants ourselves let's not be too quick to jump on the next generation. It would be disproportionate.

That maybe true, but those days of our forefathers, there wasn't benefits, free health and housing. They came here they had to work to survive.
I don't have any problem with immigration, it helps our economy, as long as they all work, doing jobs our idle job shy won't do.
The situation would improve beyond recognition, if anyone coming to this country from abroad is not entitled to any recourse of government funds, that includes benefits, housing and healthcare. They would be entitled only after they have been in full employment for 2 years.

Firstly, i stopped voting for anything political over 20yrs ago.
Secondly, we've already had this discussion re- Brexit and we both agree that it is for the best

Really? As far as I can make out, most of my ancestors have been here since at least the Norman Conquests. That probably applies to the vast majority of people.

I know you lefties like to avoid reality for the sake of ideology but denying the link between immigration and wages is almost as daft as denying the link with the housing shortage.

You are not at the races today. Half of London has an ethnic background now and even in the 1970's in my class, apart from two (Indian heritage), it was chock near full of European Italian, Polish, Irish, French Portuguese and one Scot descendent kids of immigrants.

I would hazard a guess that not many people at all in the UK have 8 great grandparents that were all born in England.

Oh man. It has been shown with genetic testing that the vast majority of Britons can trace their genes back to ancient times. You lefties are obsessed with London. Yes, London has always been more transient and multi cultural but once again, it is not representative.
