I don't agree that in the vast majority of cases, the hard-working but less well-off should be paying the mortgages of the hard-working but better-off while also trying to save for a home of their own.

I make it that they and you are desperate for any good news even if that good news is, as it stands, hollow. Only problem is that you cannot promote that as fact. I like the fact that you are chucking the Daily Mail 'love' at me. Desperate are you?

TUX.... if those people with second homes hadn't bothered to create/upgrade them from nothing or uninhabitable shells often, there would be even less housing stock. Most people I know that own 2nd or more homes have worked hard to provide the capital to buy them in the first place then worked all hours of the day/night on them developing skills such as building/plumbing/electrics. And often tenants have fcuked off owing rent and causing damage to the property like one I know who tried to fiddle the gas meter and caused an explosion. The way you tell it, it is a breeze to rock up to a property, buy it and rent it out.... if it were that easy more would be doing it.

We both know that this is the exception rather than the rule. Most people I know that own 2nd or more homes have worked hard to provide the capital to buy them in the first place then worked all hours of the day/night on them developing skills such as building/plumbing/electrics. Buying a property, particularly when you're not having to move yourself, is pretty much a breeze as spending money really isn't that hard. Edited by .TUX. (27 Nov 2016 10.54am)

(27 Nov 2016 10.54am) Interest rates are at an historic low though TUX? I had to pay interest at 15%+ when I had a mortgage - that wasn't a "breeze".... there was fcuk all left most months to spend on essentials, so I don't agree that spending money isn't hard. As I said most 2nd homeowners I know have worked hard to raise capital, then worked hard physically to create a habitable dwelling for others to rent, and should be applauded.
