The US economy is insane. The pace of inflation remains about twice as high as before Jan '21 and there's no signs of slowing with the Treasury borrowing five hundred billion this month alone. US debt interest bill rockets past a cool one trillion a year. It has doubled in 19 months. It is equivalent to 16.3% of the entire Federal budget for fiscal year 2022. America simply must pull its horns in but it's being run by ideological lunatics seemingly obsessed with running this full steam ahead into the ground until the markets crash it all. When this falls do you think anyone will be held to account? Are these clowns ever held to account? If anything they just reward themselves for failure. [Tweet Link]

This guy is super bright. [Tweet Link]
I'd much rather have him leading America than any other of the low quality elites current screwing things up.

“Foreign wars” have been “funded” by leading powers since the day they first set sail. A war is only foreign if it has no potential to impact you and in today’s shrinking world that doesn’t exclude very many. Avoiding a WW3 is clearly the over-riding objective but ignoring issues and allowing them to fester and grow results in more chance of that happening than lancing the boil now. Only the weak, the ideologically malnourished or the morally corrupt stick their heads in the sand and pretend it’s nothing to do with them.

You can't lance a boil when countries are nuclear states.....you can only operate with reduced aims. Anyone with common sense knows that you avoid a war unless you are sure you will win it. Anyone with common sense knows that if you are going to actually go to war you need to know the exit strategy and what defines success or failure. I think this administration is as clueless as Bush's was.....it's all knee jerk......the people in power don't seem bright enough for this higher level. Firstly you shouldn't be getting involved with wars that aren't your own country unless you have an official alliance with that other country. America has no such alliance with either of the wars it has involved inself in. The failure to avoid war...indeed, instead worsen them.... has been a defining feature of this administration.

Vivek Ramaswamy appears to be trying to go out of his way to be even more controversial, ridiculous and unpleasant than Donald Trump. Which is quite a task, but he seems to be achieving it. Is he bright? Probably, but he wouldn’t be the first politician to be both bright and also misguided and dangerous and that he certainly is. Some of his ideas border on the edge of insanity. Nikki Haley got it right. He is indeed “scum”. Let’s hope that sticks.

Considering it's the neo and social liberal politics you support that are ruining countries and the world right now I'd consider what you think is insane is probably the only sensible approach. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Nov 2023 9.20am)

The nuclear age brings new realities. That’s true. You can no longer completely dominate or remove threats from those with nuclear weapons. However the same principles apply as ever they did. You may not be able to remove a boil, but you can limit its capacity to spread by reducing its size and effectiveness, being careful not to step over the red line. Assured mutual destruction is a horrible concept but it is also a very powerful deterrent.

People try things for the best of intentions and sometimes they fail. This looks like a prime example. For the record I have never thought decriminalisation of drug use to be a sensible policy but this is not an area of expertise for me, and very little knowledge.

Here is another swallowing the bs. Hunter Biden is not President. He is not even a politician. He happens to be Joe Biden’s son, who has had a troubled past, including personal tragedy and drug abuse, something any father would be concerned about. That others have exploited Hunter is undeniable but Joe has seemingly taken great care to ensure that he has not been touched by it, as he tries to help his son. There is simply no evidence at all. If there was it would already be in the headlines. All there is are the flimsiest of straws. The innuendo being spread by the right is nothing more than their usual nasty politics. Those who swallow it need to change their diet before it poisons them. Biden might be old. So am I. He might be unsteady on his feet now. So am I. He isn’t a great public speaker. However his mind remains sharp. So does mine! Biden doesn’t , and I doubt ever will, face charges. Trump has been charged with 91 criminal counts. Some things he has said and done in plain sight. His morals and ethics are no better than a mob boss. Some choir boy! The only place he deserves to sing is in a prison chapel. Wisbech It’s not worth talking to you as you seem unable to follow the facts or logic when there’s serious and glaring criminal suspicions against one of your tribe namely Joe Biden. I will just say this. You think foreign countries would pay over forty million dollars (over a protracted period) to a drug addict son of a President who has no skills or expertise in any area and there is no underlying commercial rationale for the payments? You think the Biden’s setting up multiple shell and nominee companies through which to funnel the money back to the Biden family is normal practice? It’s a classic money laundering typology that anyone who knows anything about financial crime can recognise. You think the banks filing 150 SARS (Suspicions Activity Reports) regarding these transactions is normal? Any fair minded person can see these payments were about buying Joe Biden’s influence and he was very much a willing accomplice otherwise the payments would have stopped. To ignore this due to your all encompassing hatred of Trump is quite absurd and embarrassing for a man like you who espouses his own intelligence. For what it’s worth I think Trump is an arse but Joe Biden is just worse. Please watch this story unfold with an open and fair mind. Fair enough, although I think the idea that decriminalising drugs is a pipe dream for the left. Much the same as the Universal Basic Income the facts just don't back up the rhetoric. Give an inch and people will take a mile, a cliche that is appropriate in this case. Edited by Badger11 (09 Nov 2023 10.49am)
