Blimey Penge, we might be on the same page on something for once

I'm off to lie down!

Which is why I don't get why so many socialists backed remain. The biggest issue for remaining for socialists I could glean was the protection of workers' rights but I genuinely believe the Tories wouldn't roll them back – despite what the Tories haters speculate. Anyhow, Parliament wouldn't vote it through.

The government misused tax payers money to spread their own prejudices about the EU vote as well via those opinion piece booklets that went to every door they could find.

I look forward to the support for that money being returned as well.

The Electoral Commission regulate campaigners though don't they?

Because not to means...

1) Workers rights' will imo be 'rolled back' as we get poorer.

2) Brexit will make us poorer

3) Security undermined and chances of future conflict between EU countries increased if it falls apart.

4) More restrictive travel and more expensive

5) An inward looking UK.

6) Giving 'legitimate' voice to the far right/left

Making things up. Again. It's getting a nasty habit, Matthew.

I've never mentioned the CBI ever on any thread apart from the EU.

Go on - make up a quote. I dare you.

Sure they do. What the government did was legal....it just wasn't fair between the campaigns and what the government did is little different to what Ukip are being accused of.

Michael, I am not saying that and you know it,

The CBI's membership is British companies. It's role is to promote the interests of British companies. You have railed against the policies of these companies - tax efficiencies, employment practices, trading with Israel, etc., - yet you accept their pronouncements on the EU without question. Why?

No. Its role is to 'voice the views' of its members. If 65% had been for Brexit it would have announced that.

Deflecting and avoiding the issue. Nitpicking over semantics. It's becoming a nasty habit of yours, Michael.

I'm not disagreeing with any of that report. That sort of thing is why I nearly voted leave. So I agree with them in that respect. Sort of blows your premise out of the water. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's why Jamie Martin did, although I'm happy to be corrected.

I did vote leave and have a tendency towards left wing politics. The EU represents and promotes corporate interests ahead of those of its working class citizens.

Luckily, Tory governments don't.

1) Workers rights' will imo be 'rolled back' as we get poorer.

>> Probably, but I don't think that being part of the EU really has done too much either for the working classes of the UK, except to expand their numbers and create greater competition for worse paid jobs.

2) Brexit will make us poorer

>> The EU doesn't prevent this though, and arguably the impact of migratory workers has already done this for a large number of people in affected jobs.

3) Security undermined and chances of future conflict between EU countries increased if it falls apart.

>> I doubt this. Even out of the EU the UK is inextricably linked through NATO and mutual joint-intelligence dependency. Whilst being out of the EU does present a greater chance, its a slight increase on an already very improbable hypothetical chance.

4) More restrictive travel and more expensive
>> This is probably going to be true, at least to some extent, in some countries. But not significantly. Pre-EU open borders et al it wasn't that expensive to do this, and it wasn't particually difficult either. It may be cheaper as countries compete for our tourism bucks (in the longer term).

5) An inward looking UK.
>> Again I'm not so sure, in some aspects and in the short term, but long term, the UK actually has to go out and forge its own links and relationships to other nations, to establish trade, and business interests - and a lot of that will probably require the UK to be more outward looking in many regards.

6) Giving 'legitimate' voice to the far right/left
>> Both have always had a legitimate voice. The idea that the far right and the far left views don't have some legitimacy in a democratic society is contradictory. Even Fascists have some reasonable points sometimes (esp about the plight of the working class and exploitation by elite groups in society).
