We started the 20-21 season playing 442 with Zaha and Bats up front . As I recall a few fans were criticising Roy and Bats when the 442 stopped getting results. Same season Dann, Cahill, Kouyate and Benteke all scored goals from set pieces.

If Roy doesn’t bring back Johnstone I’d sack him. He’d make a bigger difference than whoever is in charge atm.

That was not a sack the manager performance last night. It was one of a depleted squad battling for a result. If Roy Hodgson wasn’t our manager right now, we’d be wanting a Roy Hodgson type manager to keep us up. Calls for Paddy McCarthy to take over now is insane. Wasn’t at the game but heard the players were clapped off and rightly so. I’d only sack Roy if he loses the changing room and we’re not at that point yet. If we learned anything it’s that Franca isn’t ready, so hopefully that will reduce the calls for ‘play the kids’. Took him 19 mins to get his first touch, lost the runner for their equaliser and kept giving the ball away. Was the worst player on the pitch by a mile but he had a couple of good moments around the 70-75th minute. I hate to lay into the guy but I think we all expected more given his price tag. Seems a really poor signing. Really hope he proves me wrong. Henderson needs dropping too. Shipping goals which are not necessarily his fault, but he doesn’t have the presence of Sam Johnstone. Wharton looks a decent player. Encouraged by him. Tough season and hard to point the finger at anyone. Any bottom half club who have lost key players to injury who are of the quality of Eze and Olise for most of the season would also struggle. All we can do is get behind the players on the pitch and not turn against them with unhelpful protests. At least it’s an exciting end to the season for a change. I’m confident we’ll grind out enough results to keep our head above the water.

Surely nobody can blame Roy for last night's result? Our cut price team stood up pretty well to Chelsea's high priced outfit.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I would say Roy's game management last night was shocking and is one of the main reason's why we just need some fresh ideas in the dugout. Wharton however, looks like an absolute Rolls Royce of a player and will be huge for our future. Last night felt a bit like Roy's last throw of the dice and fingers crossed we have a plan in place to change the management. If not, keep Roy til the end of the season because the players clearly still care.

I don't believe that Roy is going anywhere and that he is in place for the rest of the season.

I respectfully disagree with any excuses for the manager last night. I'd think it delusional to say we should be expecting a result against Chelsea so my comments are not in isolation. GK - Unless there is something behind the scenes that the club are keeping completely silent upon, for whatever reason, the continued selection of Henderson over Johnstone is clearly an incorrect one and makes the investment in Henderson, above other areas that needed resourcing too, look absolutely insane. Poor substitutions - have been a theme since the beginning with Roy and last night was no different. We've now lost our best player due to a beyond bizarre decision. Conceding very costly goals either early or late in games - once, twice, maybe a few times this might be chalked down to bad luck but is clearly a management issue and continuous theme. Set pieces - the centre of his England debacle and we continue to be vulnerable to them and incapable of capitalising upon them for goals of our own. Fitness - Players looking shattered and long out of games well before they end. Shirking responsibility - The fans are unrealistic, the players aren't good enough, it was the medical staff, it's just bad luck. I'm unaware of any other professional context where blaming everything around you for poor performance is acceptable. We have the fourth lowest goal tally in the league, is it three home wins all season and only two wins in about fifteen games now - These are facts not opinions. What is the argument for Roy as a sincere question? He sets us up well? He makes us hard to beat even if we're not entertaining? He has vast experience? There's literally nobody else? May have been the case seasons before but the evidence for him, or lack of it this season, is reflected in the results. He sets us up negatively, lacks any ability to coach set pieces or even attacking play, man-management is in question, he's lost many fans, he can't manage in-game, seems overwhelmed by the mere concept of a substitution... the list goes on from what I can/have seen. The only argument for him that I can see is that there is nobody else to come in which is very pathetic if so. He looks to have run out of ideas this season. It's not vitriol or resentment, he just doesn't look capable of producing any better for us and completely out of water with the modern game and the opposition who've adapted for it. It might have been an improved performance against Chelsea but were there any changes there that the fans have not been calling for, for months now? In that case we're all better qualified already. We may have four key players out but that's a new development, not one that can be blamed for the months before. I'm not sure to what extent fans are supposed to be satisfied watching us lose, often quite pathetically, week after week whilst being told it's just unfortunate and we should hold our nerve as things will miraculously get better despite a vast array of grievances being held? It's a really sh!t situation, there can't be any doubt. It has all the hallmarks of the chickens coming home to roost following years of apathy in player investment and coaching appointments. It's happened at other clubs and may be happening here. It's no fun supporting Palace this season, not for me anyway, there's been so little to cheer let alone get excited about and it looks to be headed only one way. I'll keep plodding along to games however, singing GAO and cheering on the team as best I can though. I'm not one for banners, booing or any other demonstrations (although I don't criticise those that do so within reason) but my expectations and hope have left the building, as has my faith in the manager.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I do not agree that the situation is as dire as you suggest. In fact it is all going brilliantly. Roy is seeing us safely into the Championship where we will be 'forced,' to seel Eze and Olise and hey presto Parish gets the money to build his new stand (as if we go down the rumoured 30% season ticket hike to pay for it can't go ahead.) Who knows with a bit of luck the Americans might lose interest and seel up and those who believe Parish can do no wrong (he did save the club remember) will convince themselves it's all for the best. Mind you with the current situation it might be the only way to effect change.

As I mentioned, I'm doing my utmost to try and not constantly moan or become overwhelmed with anger at our situation, and most certainly won't do it on matchdays, however a driving force behind that is my general lack of emotion and almost acceptance of the fact. I desperately want matchday to be something I look forward to and relish again but I feel drained of the energy or hope for it. I'll still give it a go nonetheless. COYP.

Says it all, i would like to see Roy explain some concerns we all have, he is shot, imo it is sad to see what a shambles we are, and unless we have Eze and Olise fit for the last 3/4 games or we get a new manager bounce, we are going down.
