There is that theory that England managers should be England u21 managers first. Southgate did it, a lot of foreign nations did it, and it does seem to help a person become prepared for the very specific nature of the job. I appreciate the wisdom of cutting Paddy loose so he can prove his worth at a League 2 or 1 club, but that level of football is so different to ours that many of the skills are becoming non-transferable. Thats why so few managers outside the top flight get jobs in the top flight.

Roy’s current contract ends in the summer, that doesn’t mean he is leaving. I expect he will get another contract for a year, easy option.
