Parish won't have been happy with some of the performances this season and the state of the squad demands significant change, but Roy has been a victim of circumstance, if he was given the funds to build a squad as good as the one he took over from (Cabaye and Loftus Cheek in midfield) we'd no doubt get a lot more of the performances we saw away at Everton and a lot less of the defensive dross we've witnessed when an unbalanced, ageing squad has been ravaged by injuries.

Having said that a squad rebuild is not that feasible in the hands of a 73 year old and would be better in the hands of someone who has the time to see the project through. Brighty and Morrison know what's going on, and Clinton has has said the club are looking to make a change - if Roy stays it would only be for one more year and our targets might not be available then. If Howe rejects Celtic I can see him coming here, Dyche is not far behind - I can't see Parish taking a punt on Steve Cooper (whose tactics are widely criticised by Swansea fans) or the temperamental Portuguese. If the first two are not available then I can see Roy getting another year, but I don't think he'd be replaced by the other two. We may try and do a Southampton and find an obscure foreign gem, but we tried it once and failed miserably.

I would say the extent of his t***tery was obscured from view until he was in post, then it became clear very quickly. Makes me wonder what questions they asked the bloke at interview?

Did they ask him to explain how he would use the (then current) squad? FDB apparently told a few of them he didn't want them before they had even kicked a ball for him. Did Parish and Freedman know he would do that?

Whoever gets the job next will surely be asked to set out how they will use what we have to best effect.

Oman’s,right about the timing involved in developing a squad for the future. And it’s not likely you would put that task in the hands of a 73 year old.
But surely the task should have been handed in a far more positive way than has been the case to a 69 year old four years ago.
Not of course in one hit but certainly a genuine building for the future beyond what we have seen.
Let’s face it if this happens now it’s virtually from scratch, and five years , with the guidance of an extremely talented pair of hands might well be needed to still be in this division in five years.

I don't get this idea of a 'squad for the future'. We might need, or want, a younger squad, than we've currently got, but it has to be good enough to win games straight away or we get relegated.

In that sense I see no reason why Roy can't coach a younger squad next season, and someone else takes over the year after, or whenever Roy does retire.
