Well in response to this I've been a Palace fan of over 50 years.
Most of my favourite memories have been outside the top division - the Allison/Venables years that ultimately failed but contained some brilliant football and lots of fun , the second division team put together by Coppell on a shoestring with Bright, Wright, Gray and Thomas, the Championship team with an exciting front 3 of Zaha, Murray and Bolassie and the grit of Delaney and Jedi.
Will I be similarly nostalgic about the Roy years?
I don't believe so.
If after he's gone we get thrashed 5-0 I may wish we were organised better and had a meaner defence on the day.
But I won't feel any great warmth for his methods and I long to get the excitement and enjoyment of watching Palace back.
Where you don't know more or less the exact pattern of every game with each first half being goalless or perhaps just one goal.
And yes, I am being careful whst I wish for.

Exactly this, you’ve hit the nail on the head for me.

I don’t want Roy gone as I think he has been successful based on his budget. To me, the most annoying thing about this brand of boring football is for once we can some really exciting players who we aren’t going to see play at their best.

Maybe when Roy leaves, he might be remembered as a great manager for us.

I don’t remember some of those teams, but what I will say is that - the average attendance over the last 7 years have been around 24k. You have to go back to when we was in the first division back in 72 when gates were consistently that high over 3-4 year period.

What does this tell you. This says to me the majority of fans want to see top flight football. More people want to see Crystal Palace when they are in the First Division/Premier league.

For those great teams you mention, they never consistently got gates above 20k. Why, if they were such good footballing teams.

We have sold more season tickets this season for football we can’t even see this season 12k, vs the belosie, murray and zaha season.

I want to take a moment and look at this from Roy's POV.
He's 73 now. (I'm almost that age and I retired because I realised it was time for me to go. Sometimes getting older is just acknowledging you can't quite do it anymore).

He's had a good career and if he wanted he could get a job doing commentary on any number of footie shows, if keeping a salary or just keeping busy was his wish, all at a good salary. He doesn't need to be freezing his tookis off on the sideline anymore.

He's pretty much cemented his legacy by now. He's an acknowledged authority for the game both domestically and internationally. He can call the shots in that respect.

I don't want Roy fired. I'd like to see him keep us up this year and then him gracefully retire to a life of punditry and gardening (not sure about the last but hey... who hates gardens).

This for me is the perfect outcome for this miserable year (miserable in the pandemic sense, not commenting on play here). I live in the hope.

Stay safe everyone.

Bit off topic but I remember when we regularly got 30,000 plus at home games and sometimes 40,000 plus. So where are all those fans. I mean we can’t accommodate more than 26k now. But at Wembley we had at least 35k. And most of them singing.

Nope, this just tells me that PL football is more about corporate entertainment than it is true fans. Take a close look at all the foreigners sat around you next time you go if you want proof of that.

Being loyal to Palace does not equate to being loyal to Roy.

I've never been in a hurry to suggest he goes but the negative style he insists on, particularly in the previous two games brought me much closer to that view.

Louder! To me to be a palace fan is to wish the realization of our dear clubs potential, which at the moment is being held back by the stale and sterile tactics of a yestermanager

It is easy to say "manager out!" In all fairness, no one I think disapproves of the points gained and the fact that we are in our straight 8th PL season.
It is our brand of football that is criticized. When your team play 2 games with ONE shot on target (none against Chelsea) - we are entitled to be dissatisfied!

Leicester played exactly the same style as Roy at Arsenal, one shot on target and win one - nil. Dont see their fans complaining!
