Yet again, they are both speculation.

How the country fares in the future, this has not yet been written.

Of course it hasn't! It's not been suggested otherwise.

Only that there is evidence to support the assertion that it isn't going too well.

Starers position is looking very, very, vulnerable now.

If the polling out from the weekend proves correct then he is in deep, deep, merde. Some daunting numbers out there for Labour.

Only question remaining, should Hartlepool fall to the Tories, is when he is challenged over his leadership, not when.

Keir suffered a mauling from Rachel on 5 live this morning because of his inability to make any decisions on key subjects like social care or the new traffic lights travel proposals.
He really should become the patron saint of loss causes!!

From the Guardian...

Labour set for huge election defeat in Hartlepool, internal polling suggests... [Link]

s***. This is going to be bloody messy if it pans out. I reckon the Trade Unions will move against him.

Yet again, more opinion trying to be passed off as fact.

There is no evidence to say things are going badly, only opinion. Many are delighted at how things are going. We were led to believe that the sky would fall in once we left and yet life is ticking along just fine.

A strong Brexit voting constituency though.

It is. But the reality for Labour is that if they ever want to be in with a chance of forming a Government again, the only measure of success for them is how well they do at persuading people who voted either for the Brexit Party on the Conservatives based on Brexit, to vote for them.

And Labour won in Hartlepool in 2019. This not a seat for them to gain but to defend.

If they lose it then it is a shocking inditement of how steep the hill is they have to climb if they want to stay relevant in British politics.

Losing tomorrow is catastrophic for them. And if the Unions insist that Starmer steps down in the wake of it, and threaten to withdraw their funding if he does not, then the Labour Party is facing a crisis in terms of why it even exists anymore.

Chatter out there that they are so convinced they have lost Hartlepool that the move against Starmer is already underway.

Pop-corn time!

Brexit party may have skewed that vote surely?

Absolutely. But the point remains. Labour needs people who voted for either the Brexit party or the Tories to change their minds and vote for them.

Conventional political wisdom/reality holds that in these local council elections, especially on the back of Government being in power for over 10 years, that the Opposition should be cleaning up. Winning huge slews of council seats.

Certainly not potentially losing them.

And most definitely not losing by-elections.

For a party that proclaims itself as the natural home of the working classes, to even be fearful of losing a constituency such as Hartlepool is beyond a joke.

Because if Labour do lose, then what is the point of them anymore? Why should Trade Unions continue to fund a political organisation that is so inept?

We could be waking up on Friday at the start of a process that sees Labour cease to exist in its current form within the next 12 months. This is truly a crisis moment for them.

You have to laugh.

'.@BorisJohnson has delivered #Brexit #tradedeals and jobs for #Harlepool along with a #Freeport and 180,000 well paid jobs. #Conservatives deliver, we get stuff done.
#HartlepoolByElection'.

Nadine Dorries - Tory minister.

You Certainly do, Nadine, Hartlepool's population is only 92,000.

She can't spell Hartlepool either.
