Im not ashamed to admit that i cried yesterday several times after hearing the sad news. I have never met the man himself, but he was part of the Crystal Palace family, the Holmesdale family and its never ever going to be the same again on this site in his absence. It speaks volumes of how he was and what he did for not just me, but for a lot of people on here, that his passing has saddened a lot of people. Im happy to contribute also to anything in his honour as he was always a click away when i needed a link/help with anything. R.I.P. staffie ull be sadly missed Eaglelee79

It speaks volumes that he was so kind and attentive to anyone that needed assistance, regardless of the fact that he did not even know them. I'm sure he had a heart of gold. RIP Staffie

Hopefully this post won't be considered as self-indulgent, but rather my experiences of staffie, to highlight the generosity of the man. I joined the HOL about 10 years ago, and being a technophobe, had no idea about how to download files. It transpired I lived 10 minutes walk away from staffie. He would regularly drop off CD's he had burned, whilst I learnt how to download files. Sloveniadave first started the 'thankyou' presents to staffie around 2010. Sloveniadave got the ball rolling for me. Over the next couple of years we (thanks to donations by other HOLers) got him a home shirt with 'staffie' on the back, a signed copy of a vinyl "Crime of the Century" by band-member Roger Hodgson (staffie's all-time favourite album). All of the above we virtually had to force on the man, as he wanted no gifts of appreciation. It was more than enough for HOLers just to post 'thanks' And like all of us, he could be a miserable bvgger from time to time. And yet he was loved unconditionally by a huge amount of people who didn't even know him. Sorry for rambling. RIP staffie Great stuff Ali And I am glad I got to donate toward the shirt and album, just gutted I never got to say thanks to his face

In fact just spoke to Jonny (Programme Editor) and they would be happy to put something in the match day Message Board (which this week appeared on P34 of the programme). However they will need this by tomorrow lunchtime (Wednesday). Any volunteers to write a nice piece / obituary? Again if anyone has a picture I'm sure fellow fans and HOLers would be keen to finally see staffie, an enigmatic man who did so much for our community.

Haven't been on the HOL for a couple of days, so I'm just seeing this now. Very sad news. Again, I never met nor corresponded with the man, but as a supporter-in-exile he had a profound effect on my experience. He has been, almost single-handedly, responsible for my ability to stay connected with the club on matchdays throughout the past 15 years. For that I am truly grateful. Of course, our loss cannot compare with that of his family and immediate friends. But if it's true that "no man is a failure who has friends," then the outpouring of regret and support from all corners of the globe testifies to the quality of the man. Top bloke. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
