Terrible player. Worse than useless. I've never seen him have a good game. I really hope we can sign better players than this.

Even as a `smallish` club I'd expect our London location and 4th successive Premier season to be appealing to some good players.

Caulker needs a settled environment. Dismissing him is bizarre. He was great at Swansea, did enough at Cardiff to be bought by a premier league QPR and then went to Southampton. Due to the Dutch centre half they got in he found his chances limited before joining Liverpool.

He can do a job. Is quick and like Dann before he joined us, has a point to prove. I for one would be content with this signing.

There a literally thousands of players with "a point to prove" I'm not sure that makes a particularly good reason to sign someone.

Caulker may come good but I haven't seen anything to suggest that is the case. £6.5 million is not a lot but it's too much for a player QPhaha need to get rid of and has struggled to play any football.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Talks opened, beating off competition hopefully. We still have Delaney for 1 more year but Caulker must fancy his chances to start ahead of Delaney

If the club listened to many of the supporters we'd never have bought Bolasie or Delaney. And I don't remember a large number being enthused by Dann or Ledley either.

I am not convinced as he has looked mixed, but Pulis and Allardyce are both a good judge of defenders and they have either been in for him before or are also rumored to be interested.

If we let Hangeland and Mariappa go, then we will need two center halves. If Kelly goes too, then we would need at least one full back as well.

As such, getting Caulker for reasonable money makes sense.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I would be very happy with this. He's still fairly young, and has a decent amount of pl experience. I think he just made a few wrong decisions in his career- left Spurs after doing well at Swansea, Cardiff and qpr were both crap, and he was never going to get into the Liverpool team as a loanee under Klopp. I think a lot of you are underestimating him

Perhaps if they had listened to the supporters they wouldn't have wasted all that money on Florian Marange, Jerome Sicknote Thomas, Jimmy Kebe et al

My point was that for all the online whining, the club has not done badly from some of the players who match that background. There have been some crap buys, particularly in our first year in the PL, but there have been some bargains too. If the club had listened to the whingers, we'd never have brought in players like Delaney, Hangeland, Bolasie, etc. "not good enough for xxx then they're not good enough for us," or "xxx has been relegated twice so he must be s***."

On balance, the club seems to have done far better than people like you are willing to admit.

At just 24 I think this is a solid signing for cover for Dann/Delaney. Would rather have him as backup than an aging Hangeland and Mariappa and at a cost of between 4.5 mill and 6.5 mill he is cheap in todays market with potential to get better and at least retain his value
