Isolated Fenland, where inbreeding is acceptable, is the literal embodiment of disfigurement.

The government are facing an election. Whenever that happens populist nonsense tends to enter the scene. It will disappear afterwards. Of course people are concerned about immigration. They have been throughout my life. What me living in Cornwall has to do with my ability to think beats me. In truth the clean air probable helps objectivity. “White Cornwall”! What a thoroughly nasty concept. One of my neighbours comes originally from Africa and together with his wife works in our local hospital. Where my wife works. Her colleagues there come from many different countries. Native born British are in the minority. Does that bother anyone here? Not that I can detect! That you perceive my comments on Brexit as “whining” says so much more about you than me. Happy Christmas. So according to you, the demographic isn't being completely changed but in the back of nowhere where you reside and despite Cornwall being one of the Whitest places left in Britain, your neighbour is African and your wife's colleagues are multinational? Seems like you are a bit confused. Merry Christmas Wisbech. We had better celebrate before the Holiday is banned, just in case it offends Muslims.

As with everything in today’s world the pace of change is ever increasing. That’s inevitable. You either adapt or you moan. It won’t though completely change because not only do we adapt, everyone does. Cultures blend, cultures change, cultures are adopted. New arrivals start to become, in time, more like us. Eventually there is a new us. Just as we aren’t the us that our grandparents were. This is nothing to fear. What is be feared is those who refuse to adapt. Either those arriving or those already here. They need to be educated and, if necessary, coerced. In that we must be resolute, decisive and uncompromising. Zero tolerance. I have several times argued how we need to remove religion from public life and education as part of this. Positive action rather than moaning about either whiteness or Muslims!

Unless there has been a revolutionary change of attitude, or people, in the years since I lived in Fenland the stereotypes, albeit rare, still exist. Some seriously out of touch people's around there who make Cornwall look like a modern paradise. Which has nothing to do with Ukraine. If you discount the Russians who invaded the Fens using Latvian, Lithuanian or Estonian passports. Can’t trust the Russians.

Stereotypes for me, but not for thee. As for trust...oh the irony. The more I see in the present the more I come to, not agree with, but perhaps understand how the past came to be. Edited by Stirlingsays (25 Dec 2023 11.17pm)

Russia took another town today....one that's been fought over since 2014. Russia continues to gain ground on most fronts in Ukraine. The inability of neo cons to realise that their day has past and that the ground swell of people who use to support their ideas is far lower now is partly why this war happened in the first place. I said at the start that Russia would always hold the upper hand in this war for several reasons but fools had to go with high risk, no reward....because the only thing we gain here is having to rebuild and fund Ukraine.....When we can't even fund our own country properly. Wars are incredibly damaging for all of us and I can only hope that when the settlement happens that some reflection is taken on how this madness was arrived at. I won't hold my breath. I use to be very pro American foreign policy but I've long since realised that while most Americans themselves are our brothers.....that country isn't run for the average American on the street....it's run by 'special interests' and highly dishonest and ruinous people, especially in the state and certain other departments. Understanding the past is an essential skill for those who prepare for our future. Just as well then that they haven’t forgotten the futility of appeasement. For sure Russia holds and has always held the upper hand in this war. It’s unarguable but also not the point. It could only have been avoided if we had put boots on the ground, and we would never have done that. Russia will probably achieve all of their stated aims, when a settlement is reached. However if they had been allowed to face an unsupported Ukraine without being ostracised and sanctioned they would not have stopped with just those stated aims. All of Ukraine would have been back under Russian control, nuclear weapons would again be closer to us and Putin’s ultimate aim to recreate the USSR one big step closer. Should that matter to us? Many in the USA don’t seem to think so. So apparently do some here. I beg to differ.

Much damage is caused by control freaks over estimating their abilities and capacities and thus making situations much worse than could have been....then because they hold the megaphone and can censor whether it's in Russia or the west they get to convince people that they are the good guys. That is essentially the human nature analysis here. America don't get to dictate to Russia how they should relate to border countries. Just as Russia don't tell America what their border relations need to be. The point has been made many times...If Russia had spent time and money convincing Canada or Mexico to elect an anti American government that was going to ally with Russia against the Americans then America would have behaved in precisely the same fashion that Russia did. There is historical precedence for what I say here. America spent time and money and backed an invasion of Cuba to try to get rid of the regime there....exactly because it had allied with the Soviets. Indeed, only when the freshly elected Kennedy took over had a change of heart and had to convince and change foreign policy did US support for that that Cuban invasion get canned and thus defeated. America has interfered with and changed the regimes of many countries around the world. There is zero morality in these state policies, only presumed national self interest. So when I hear these cold war attitudes that get backed up with morality fables I know exactly what I'm hearing. Lies and half truths. But far worse than the fact than that is what the actual outcomes are....These guys worsen the status quo and then claim otherwise. They take a sh1t in your back yard and then claim they are growing your roses. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Dec 2023 1.44am)

Until those who talk about 'appeasement' put themselves in the front line then know that these are fake words. These people are terrible for any peace makers because in Russia the exact same argument would be used when people push for coming to terms.....Something that was possible in March 21 and these people rejected and used these arguments.....with the result that now we have a far worse outcome. I've never been against a warrior fighting for their country. This wasn't a war they could win and they were let down by their leaders but those men did their duty. But I'll always be against the person who cheers on a fight when they would never turn up to fight themselves. Those people are....well, we know what they are, we saw them in the playground cheering on the fights and we see them in adult life too. Edited by Stirlingsays (26 Dec 2023 12.29am)
