He probably is guilty but just like the obsession with Trump some people would rather waste time and money on this than on fixing the many problems this country has. It isn’t a court of law He could tell the truth instead of mounting a smokescreen defence using the most expensive lawyers in the country. And no, the taxpayer should not fund this. Oh, and don’t forget that cats have nine lives. Something Mr Johnson is determined to prove. Presumably you aren’t bothered if a Prime Minister lies to Parliament then, no need to take action. But the issue is, that just the fact of being immediately flown out stops them coming in the first place. It works. The model is based on what the Australians did and it worked. However, Sunak has ZERO intention of this happening. It is as simple as that. All this tough talk is pure politicking. Literal window dressing. Creating an illusion, primarily to put the kibosh on any internal Tory moves to bring Johnson back. Because Johnson might deny Labour victory come the next election. And that is not allowed to happen. Sunak is a place-holder. Keeping the seat warm for Starmer. Who will then engineer us back into the EU within 5 years of taking office (my own bet would be a 'second' referendum in 2026, probably in the September meaning they can argue we have had a decade to see if we have changed our minds). Only just read this. This is a conspiracy theory that I so want to believe is true! Made my day. It's common sense and at last something optimistic to look forward to.

Though most may not have been clinking a glass at a party (when lying about it) while they banned you from visiting your dying relatives in hospital, or indeed leaving your house.

Absolutely hysterical that anyone thinks it's a waste of effort finding out whether our PM lied to Parliament. Follow that line to the next Putin, Bolsonaro or Erdogan.

I remember the guidance at the time being clear that e.g. leaving parties weren't necessary for work and therefore not excluded from the COVID requirements. How come that now seems to be in question? Every other employer in the country knew it, the guy that wrote it did not. Apparently.
