Good lord, I can't believe I'm reading this from you. Is this deliberately ironic? It certainly isn’t! What’s ironic is that you think it might be as it indicates that you probably think you have won an argument with me at some time when you very obviously haven’t. None of your repetitive arguments are anything more than entrenched positions based on fallacies. They never win. They just keep being repeated.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

So the fact that you never stop whining about Brexit isn't just a little bit contrary to your previous post? Which of my arguments are based on fallacies? Perhaps you can provide some evidence to support that statement.

We are now reaping what we sowed and what I do is point that out the better for others to understand why it is necessary to initiate some constructive corrections. Your fallacies? As an example you need to look no further than your endless claims about “the great replacement theory “. An awful lot of your views are founded in it.

Keeping on quoting that stupid phrase, makes you look like a deluded fool. The fact that the government is now making noises about immigration numbers means that the population are now starting to realise the scale of demographic change. It is heading to the top of the chart of what people are worried about. Meanwhile, the likes of you, who have chosen to live in very White Cornwall, still believe that they can bury their heads in the sand and pretend that it just those damn far right types who are making it all up. Your pomposity and lack of self awareness is unrivalled. You 'don't whine about Brexit'. Jesus Christ.

I don't know why people bother with an argument like this. Putin has far more support in all demographics than any western leader.

You are correct about the demographic. Infact she just turned 60 and has agreed to continue working for the NHS past her retirement date. When I went to Russia it struck me how WW2 is still a big issue for them. They lost 20m people so not surprisingly national security is a big issue. It doesn't excuse the invasion of the Ukraine but it does go some way to explaining it. After the war the USSR had buffer states friendly to them. In the last 30 years most of those are no longer under Russian influence and some have joined NATO. Russian politicians and many of their people feel they are being hemmed in by the west. As a contrast for the last 200 years the US policy has been to install friendly governments as their neighbours. To that end they have invaded countries and deposed leaders and almost gone to nuclear war all because they didn't like a country in their sphere of influence. The west has not helped matters on how it deals with Russia which has just fed their paranoia. Russia should not have invaded the Ukraine but we should keep well out of it. The EU inviting Ukraine and Moldova to join is just poking the bear. I would have offered Russia a peace deal over the Ukraine and a trade deal with the EU.
Edited by Badger11 (22 Dec 2023 7.06am) Yours is the common sense argument. Not that making one is worth your time with that lot. It'll all play out as predicted and the outcomes will show how foolish some approaches were compared to others. It's just annoying that those who suggested that this was a fool's path weren't listened to. We have the suffer the same consequences but the point will be made that hundreds of thousands of good European lives and our cheap future energy were thrown away because of a slavish adherence to outdated bad policy. If the elite class were judged on results instead of marking their own homework they would be far more careful and there would be less hubris. Instead, they are 'fail upwards' politicians who all give themselves jobs after politics in a system just as corrupt as the Russian one....Well, in that sense anyway. That’s the fallacy! You extrapolate them based on false assumptions and reach fallacious conclusions. The government are facing an election. Whenever that happens populist nonsense tends to enter the scene. It will disappear afterwards. Of course people are concerned about immigration. They have been throughout my life. What me living in Cornwall has to do with my ability to think beats me. In truth the clean air probable helps objectivity. “White Cornwall”! What a thoroughly nasty concept. One of my neighbours comes originally from Africa and together with his wife works in our local hospital. Where my wife works. Her colleagues there come from many different countries. Native born British are in the minority. Does that bother anyone here? Not that I can detect! That you perceive my comments on Brexit as “whining” says so much more about you than me. Happy Christmas.
