If you could be bothered to read back through my posts I was suggesting this possibility quite a few weeks ago. I think the DMC see getting rid of Trump as the overwhelming priority and have called what amounts to a national emergency to achieve it. They knew that if Sanders stood the floating voters would not be so likely to vote for him so managed to kick him off. They also know Biden won't do well in one to one TV debates but for the time being he can hold the line. Then he will get sick or have some other reason to be forced to withdraw. Who is chosen as VP now becomes vital as they would be the obvious replacement. I am pretty sure it won't be Hillary. Too much baggage! Don't think it will be Michelle Obama either. Her lack of public office experience would be exploited. I do though think it will be a woman. Amy Klobuchar looks like the most likely to me, and is now undergoing vetting. However, don't write off Kamala Harris. She is young, smart and has another obvious appeal. You obviously dont bother to understand matov and his political knowledge from what I read anyhow. I reckon he has read and re read all of your posts but you actually post that you cant be bothered with it sometimes. Pot kettle black.

All I am saying is that if he did he would see that this idea has been around for a while. He though has no need to "bother" as I told him what was said anyway.

The idea that the Democrats have "moved to the left", as suggested in a recent post here, always amuses me. It's something I have debated with my American friends for many years whose idea of what is "left" is far, far removed from what most of us recognise here. It seems to me that, in general, mainstream public opinion in the USA is slowly becoming a little more liberal whilst the margins are hardening, especially on the right. The Democrats simply reflect those changes. They have rejected the candidates thought to be more on their margin but if you consider the policies they were actually proposing you would see that many were already firmly established and accepted in the UK, and indeed much of the developed world. Hardly of the left at all. We have been dominated by Tory-led governments for the majority of my life but not one has ever proposed overturning the concept of universal health care paid for via taxation that is so contentious in the USA. So is it really "moving to the left" to advocate for this? Or is it just advocating joining the modern developed world? Trump has dragged the USA backwards in so many ways but I sense the tide turning against him now, except on the really distant margins. Even Fox is beginning to distance itself. Trump is definitely a reaction to something but it isn't about any kind of real leftward move by the Democrats. We can though speculate on what else it might be. My own thoughts are it's a sign of the increasingly wide divide between those in the USA, predominately in the eastern states and on the coasts, who want their country to move forward and become a modern liberal democracy, and those in the centre and south who reject such ideas want to move backwards. The alt right being part of the second group. I emigrated to the US almost forty years ago now and have endured the political system here ever since. Only since I took citizenship in 2015, though, have I been obliged to actually participate in it - welcome to the election process, 2016. Being generally more right than center, I chose to "waste" my vote and checked the box for Gary Johnson. I couldn't stomach Trump and even more so, Clinton. I did my civic duty. Not voting would've had the same outcome. You, sir, have just written what I consider to be a very accurate summary of the state of the US political landscape. Well done. Those like me -teetering in the middle- are pitifully at a loss. Can't stomach Cheeto and can't get behind Sleepy Joe. I learned my lesson in 2016 and will have no choice but to suck it up this time and vote for whomever the Democrats put on the ticket. And, if it becomes four more of Cheeto - will just have to hope for a miracle that the Democrats can take back the Senate (and keep the house.) Some say that would be preferable to winning in November. "Watch him squirm" is a term many use... it could be entertaining, at least. (I'd rather have him out; I worry about that button he has access to - and, I believe he is unhinged enough to use it.)

Increasingly convinced that come November, Biden will not be the one standing against Trump. His complete unsuitability for an election campaign is becoming more apparent by the day. The Democrats clearly have a candidate lined up that they cannot get through the normal primary process. Biden will be diagnosed with an illness and they will parachute this person in. If they do that it'll show up the Democrats for what we already know about them. The lack of talent they have who could appeal nationally sticks out like a white suit at a funeral. They have wall to wall far left radicals because that's what their activists want.....So at the moment they are heading to yet another well deserved loss. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 May 2020 8.17pm)

Can you remember if you were brainwashed before you started living in the USA, or is this just what happens to all humans if they spend any more than a fortnight there?

Coming from someone who has lived in the USA for 40 years makes it especially gratifying. I too would rather have him out than watch Congress roast him regularly. We can leave the political retributions until after he can do no further damage.

Trump is a symptom of the mistrust that many voters have in the establishment. Trump was the outsider who had never been in office. White Americas have figured out that the 'progressives' are the puppets of the elites and those who follow their path are brainwashed. They are realising that voting for the Left ultimately means the end of European/American culture.

Those living in blue states are certainly seeing what results from Democratic management. They couldn't manage a circle jerk in a sex addiction clinic.

You, and those post similar ideas, can claim superior knowledge and insight to your heart's content. Doesn't make you right either. I think someone who has personally witnessed the developments for 40 years is much more likely to understand all the nuances than anyone who hasn't. The point being countered was actually the idea that the Democrats moving so far to the left was what led to Trump. Your own opinion is as clearly wrong as that one in that there are many liberal "white" Americans opposing Trump just as there are many "black" Americans who support him. Including one of my good friends who has swallowed the bs hook line and sinker.

We have continuous exchanges. He sends me streams of conspiracy theories and quotes from Alex Jones and the like and I debunk them. As some of the actions he is contemplating would actually hurt him I do my best to disavow them as unnecessary. Some of the very committed Trump disciples have seemingly lost all power of independent evaluation and are willing to believe whatever they are told, so long as it comes from certain people.
